MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

MHUpgrade option, anyone tried it?

Hi all,

I just received an email from MH for an upcoming flight MEL-KUL return for something called "MHUpgrade". The email says :

_________

We are pleased to inform you that your current flight itinerary is eligible for an upgrade to a premium class cabin.

Not every flight qualifies for this new option, but YOUR UPCOMING FLIGHT IS!

Let Us Get You Upgraded! Click the button above to get started.
__________

Its basically a sliding scale where you can put in a price and if successful get upgraded for that price. The scale is from $230AUD to $950AUD per leg. It also has this little dial that shows how "strong" your price is....needless to say, $950 is VERY strong...

Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, what value did you put and were you successful?

Sounds like a good deal as I paid $770 return economy (to Phuket) and even current business return to KL is $4,440.

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I also got this email today, BNE to KUL, scale is from $215 to $810.

I'm very tempted, and there appears to be lots of business seats still available for my flight, which is in a few weeks, meaning I could possibly have a good chance.....now to decide how much to bid....!

Right, that is exactly where I am...what I am not sure about is if they give you a second chance if they reject. I.e. you bid $400 but we will offer at $550, or something like that.....I am going to give it a try for sure, just not sure how much to bid...

Was offered this from business to first, lowest started at 2750usd. Could not reject it fast enough
This was from lhr to kul
They should make them more attractive, to me looks like they are just (at least for premium class) just offering the fare differences.

Cheers!

Do you get this only when you book your flights through their website? i never get them - as I book through a TA. So maybe that's why.

Tonight I got offers for the two bookings I have - one through the MH website, and the other through expedia.com.sg. Although the expedia booking may have been taken over by MH, as I already upgraded the outbound sectors on that booking with Enrich miles.

This is new, never had such offers for my earlier bookings this year.

Looks like you can only out in one offer:

8. Passenger may only submit one Upgrade Offer per eligible flight segment as per the purchased ticket.

However, you can revise it if it hasn't been accepted.

I wonder what booking class this will be in. If the ticket is reissued in, eg, award booking class, you might not get miles for it.

Didn't get the offer myself for a late Dec flight, booked via a TA. However, I'm probably not interested in paying double for a J seat - especially with the current loadings where I can probably find a row of 4 seats to myself.

Do you mean miles for the original economy ticket or business class (upgraded) ticket? In my experience in upgrading an economy ticket using miles - the mileage did not automatically credit, but I phoned up, gave them my ticket number and it was corrected with original ticket mileage.

Interesting poiunt. If it comes through it will be about $1400 return from MEL to Phuket in business Vs $4,500 if you book it directly as business. Given you get lounge access, additional luggage, better meals, priority security, priority boarding, better wines etc etc I guess its good value.

I too love the 4 seats in economy also....is it worth it for the upgrade price....up to the individual I guess...
