MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

Paid 150usd for an upgrade MNL-KUL, MH805. Check in opened 3hrs prior to departure.

Lounge in Manila was nothing special.
Plane was dated and the IFE was a portable device of dubious quality.
Served Champagne when asked (suprising!)
Seat was comfy and I was able to snooze.
Regional Lounge in KUL is above my expectations.

For me I feel it was worth it.

Apologies for me not looking at all of the messages but we have friends just booked LHR-KUL return. Theyhave paid around £600 in Y. They are asking what would be a sensible bid to upgrade.

Thanks

I just checked that one way business promo is about £1300 to 1400. For myself, if I really wish to try the business class, I'm most likely will bid up to £500~600 each way, but no more than that.

Have they checked what the minimum bid is? I tend to start at the minimum bid (if I am happy to pay that) and then consider increasing the bid closer to the departure date.

The total amount paid (Y tkt + bid) if successful, should be less than the outright cost of a commercial cheapest J fare. How much less? I reckon at least 20% less to justify it.

Is that because you think the non successful bidders are informed there is a higher bid?
Would it be better to bid as soon as one gets the email or only shortly before the closing of the window? Would that be 48hrs before the flight?

Non-successful bidders are not informed as per info from MH. Only if your bid is successful, you will get a message and the amount will be charged on your card.

Of course I know what MH say on their website...
However, I was wondering why minz56 starts with a low offer and increases it closer to departure. It sounds as he is a regular user and could have a bit more info.

I've used it several times and I don't understand why he would do that. I do not have the impression that MH give out faster upgrades to higher bids. They just wait until 1-2 days before the flight and then process the bids.

Can anyone confirm if you can still bid for upgrades on international sectors?

Is it possible still to buy MH last minute upgrades at LHR or KUL? Pricing on my route is £1200 economy, £5000+ business return, so i'm flying economy.

This may have been mentioned many posts ago but how long in advance do they inform passengers of the option to bid for an upgrade and is this for most domestic flights where there is space in business class?
It's part of an international booking where the first leg is domestic. I went to the website and all it does is tell me the flight details.

Searching the website it looks like the bidding option has gone completely. Can anyone confirm this?
There was a link in at tweet in July 2018 with a link to the bidding option. This link now is for an upgrade at a particular price, no bidding.

Simply place your bid via MHupgrade and we'll notify you if it has been accepted 48 hours before your flight departs. Find out more here
