Thanks. Was there another LHW sub-brand at that time that was 4/4.5 stars?

Do you remember what the classification was for Prima?

Prima

Prima was formed around 1992, headed by Michael Nijdam. It represented small luxury hotels like The Datai and the Amans. It was NOT four-star at all. Sadly I no longer have a directory, so cannot remember who else they represented. Paul will probably know, though!

Great stuff, Kage! Nostalgia at its best.

Thanks. Was there another LHW owned brand in the 80s?

If there was, then I am not aware of it. I guess you are not thinking of Small Luxury Hotels of the World? No, probably not.

Just got an email from Leaders Club.

Bad news - the free membership option has gone. Basic membership is now $100 / year (I have been comped a year as a previous free member)

Good news - benefits now include free continental breakfast for 2 when booking a LHW property via LHW and free internet access. The other 'if available' benefits still apply - upgrade, late check-out etc. They are also continuing the 'stay 5 times, get 1 free night' promo from last year.

Not sure I will be tempted to renew in 2012 at these levels. That said, the best part of LHW membership is the very glam free cocktail parties they throw in London (and elsewhere) - two in London last year.

Same here, mail just came in. Their wording is typical PR ballyhoo: " New Years present: upgrade to Access Level status (worth $ 100/yr.)". No explicit word though that Basic level has been scrapped (however, on the application page it's not available).

I just got the same email, and an upgrade to Access level. Maybe all base level members were "upgraded" ?

Although I hope to have continued complimentary membership in the future, I would be willing to pay $100 to renew.

Also received the same email.
Free Internet alone is worth at least $100 a year- however I will also be very reluctant to renew if there are not other concrete benefits.

Leaders Club Vs Intercontinenal Ambassador

I am not sure which one to renew.

LC - Clearly a lot more luxury properties and the free breakfast + internet is way worth the membership fee.

IC Ambassador - simmilar

On the fence.

Were you asked to pay to renew LC for 2011? A lot of people on this board got an offer to renew for free.

Do we know anyone who has actually used the unlimited service? Even at $1200 there need to be some really hard benefits for this to be considered.

you simply discuss the upgrades you would want and see if they offer them.
