Wow! The family really still lives there. I had visions of them keeping an apartment there but spending time elsewhere. This article makes it sound like they are not only around but also....involved.

a part of the palazzo is soon to be rented out to a luxurious hotel group that will continue restoring and maintaining this magical place.

Sold in September 2007 to a Swiss-Italian real estate group, after extensive restoration, it now becomes yet another hotel, reserved for wealthy clients belonging to the Palazzo Papadopoli Hotels & SPA LLP

Dining experience
Rather unexpected (last-minute Alitalia schedule change) we spend one night in Venice on the way home from Sardinia. The website showed zero availability (not all rooms are finished yet) so we decided to stay at the Gritti and visit the Palazzo Papadopoli for diner.
We arrived via the back garden entrance (the front entrance is accessible by water taxi only). We were expected and shown our way to the 2nd floor where you find the lobby, bar and restaurant. The place was fairly quiet, only a few tables occupied. There was a harpist playing, a thunderstorm outside, we just loved the ambiance, reminded us of the Eyes wide shut movie.
We were offered two dining menus, Asian and Italian cuisine. After spending over a week on Sardinia, we had made up our minds already before arriving. In short, the Asian food was absolutely delicious. Starters, entrees, desserts… we felt like we were back in Amanpuri. Service was attentive and friendly but still a bit unpolished. E.g. only presented with the wine list after asking (and after our starters arrived)
We did get a tour throughout the property. We visited the guest lobby, library, wooden roof terrace and one of the suites (I believe the one featured on the site). The palazzo evidently was an amazing place to live in throughout the centuries. The restoration must have been a hell of a job and the result is fabulous. Only downside is that we felt we were wandering around in a B&B Italia or Maxalto showroom. Also the lighting surprised us. This place just screams for dimmed lighting and cozy ambiance. For now, it is simply too bright, good thing is that I believe they figured that out already and working on a solution for that.
That said, this place for us is the without a doubt the place to stay in Venice. No other 5* compares with this in terms of serenity and tranquility, just what one needs after a day in Venice.
Arrival via the garden
Entrance hall
2nd floor – lobby
Restaurant - Table setting
Restaurant – Ceiling
4th floor – Guest lounge
4th floor – Library
