My HON status expired 29th of February - at the same time the entire airline collapsed. Prefect timing.
However, I had planned to go straight back up, as I only needed 190k in 2020.
Originally, this would have happened by August. Everything was already ticketed. (I did get my money back though as my travel agent immediately refunded everything before LH noticed they were running out of cash).
I guess I can forget about all of this now. No chance to collect 190k by 31.12.
I doubt LH have cases like mine on their radar. What a shame after 13 years of HON status.

Official anouncement at 3pm today:
The start of the new system is moved by a year to 2022.
If you couldn't qualify in 2019 & 2020 you status will be extended by a year.
Any evouchers that were supposed to expire in 2020 will be extended to end 2021.

Very strange reasoning offered in the call. I missed most of it because I had urgent things to do at work, so just have to rely on hearsay from another participant. It seems the decision was taken at a baord meeting yesterday and is dominated by beancounter logic. A substantial number of M&M members pay to extend SEN status... it seems the liability for that is main driver for the extension of status.

As I am Senator till Feb 2023. This means I have (as far as I read the new rules) another year to count on my status stars for lifetime Senator. And could requalify in 2022 under the new rules. Or try to requaliy next year under the old rules, which should be possible ... Let's see, if we have the official annoouncement

What about HONs, with a 2 year requalification cycle? Cannot fly a lot in 2020, does it mean I have to make up for the missed 2020 by flying crazy number of flights in 2021? Or are HONs given half-a-requalification-worth of status miles (=300k)? This is what Flying Blue has done for ULTI which also has a 2 year requalification cycle. That doesn't guarantee requalification, but it helps. What is Lufthansa's approach?

I'm in my dead year, so at least the positive that I can take out of this is that at least next year I'll be able to requalify for a further two years of SEN. Other than that, it seems as though it's a bit of a raspberry from the LH Group.

Thanks for the details. I'm surprised it's such a thin offering compared to the North American carriers and even BA.

This is the boat that I am in...unfortunately. Made HON in August 2019. Expires 2/22. Probably won't fly very much in 2020. It's really a shame. Hopefully HON (solely bc of the 2yr qualification period) is a topic that can be revisited.

Not really. With an expiry of 2022 and planning to SEN renew this year with light travel next year.
I know we cannot deal with all situations.
As an example a SEN colleague of mine expiry 2021 did not make a lot in 2019 and same in 2021 will a free ride to 2022.
Why not +1 for everyone?
You can spare me your comments about "you are whining, you jealous"
