Miles from last night's LH flight have already posted. ^
Only 1,563 miles instead of 2,500 miles.
The feeder flight on the way out was an NH codeshare and booked into C but this one wasn't a codeshare (although the first available connecting flight) and booked into Z.

How surprised should I be that my family and I, while flying on award tickets, all managed VDB flying MAA-FRA-CPH?
The whole process was a bit strange, but happy to be sitting by the pool at the Radisson Blu in the city. Wife and kids are already plotting how to spend our VDB money.

No surprise, VDB on awards is normal, LH won't rebook awards onto OAL or *A though unless they really have to. If you were really lucky it got rebooked into a revenue class? Check your booking...

No such luck on revenue class, at least on the LH legs. Should get miles from the 9W leg to BLR, at least according to what we can see. However, LH did not bring our BPs to the hotel as promised and maybe things will change (the other family received theirs just now). No OLCI available and I hope they manage to seat the kids with one of us
I am a bit surprised they targeted families as they had 3 single passengers volunteering. Not that I complain, we had an extra day before work/school and the VDB covered the YQ on the award tickets plus the cost if our flights to CMB. I even convinced the wife and kids to not go shopping

Yes 9W/LH is no problem, 9W will even tag you all the way, ask for it. They used to check you in for LH too... BLR is a single building for international and domestic, check with a 9W employee on arrival if you luggage will automatically be transferred to the LH flight (even if tagged thru). MAA-BLR is a short hop, so seating should be no biggie? Enjoy the 748 ex-BLR!

Thanks for the info! I am not too worried about the hop to BLR, but would like to have the kids by an adult to FRA. I could pull up a seat map (only single seats spread throughout) but not select seats.Flight leaves at 3:45 and I know the kids will fall asleep onto whomever is seated next to them 😳.
Looking forward to 748. A pleasant surprise. My 7 year old son is already upset we were booked in X as he had grand visions of upgrading with points😞. I start to understand what Eightblack is describing in his trip reports.

I suspected as much, seems like everything is full at the moment. They originally wanted us to stay 2 days in Chennai, which we declined as the kids start school on Wednesday.
I even asked about alternative routings but they were quite insistent we route via BLR. Well, maybe we take another bump in BLR and see the city (nevermind school)

Got to enjoy the 747-800. Nice plane!
Agent had no intent on us getting bumped or upgraded. We got early check-in and a meal during our 4+ hour layover. The other family wad offered upgrades at 400€, no offer for us. I asked about VDB but there was no chance despite his guess that 5+ would be bumped. They just wanted to get us on our way. I didn't push much as the kids shouldn't miss school.
We were able to catch an earlier flight to CPH...booked in X. No complaints though as LH staff took good care of us and the 2400€ will come in handy on our summer vacation.
