There are no reversers on the outboards. The original A3XX design didn't have any at all but it was realized the runway requirements would limit it to too few airports.

Spotting in LAX

Hi all, I have arranged for a 24hrs stopover in LAX on my way from SIN to ORD. I will be staying overnight at the Sheraton Four Points LAX Airport. Can anybody comment on this hotel about spotting (rooftop, if any?) or if the nearby famous In-n-Out is the best place ?
Thanks !

I'm not familiar with the layout of the Four Points, but In-n-Out can't be beat... burgers while watching widebodies on final approach. You probably could walk over to the Parking Spot and go to the top level of the garage for a better view (haven't really felt the need myself).

You will be told to leave.

Cross to the bus station and take Beach Cities route 109 to Imperial Hill (Sheldon Road stop). Arguably the best plane-watching spot in the land ^.

Hi all! Is there anywhere on the lax campus, pre-security, where I can sit down next to an electrical outlet, maybe a beer, and get good plane views while working for a couple hours?

Pre-security? Not many. All the good places I can think of are after security.

I think Encounter at the LAX theme building is the only pre-security place that has view of airfield and place to drink.

Encounter is one place as bzcat suggested.
For a slightly obstructed view you can go to the 3rd level of Tom Bradley terminal and hang out at the restaurants there. There is also a bar at the Daily Grill. You can definitely see a good number of heavies parked at the gates. The south side will also give you a side view of T4 where AA is.

This is what I ended up doing, and it actually worked out great. Obnoxious lack of electrical outlets, but great view of the heavies and the southern complex.

Glad you had a mostly decent time. Yea that area does lack outlets. The outlet stand always seems to be taken up. Quite frustrating.

A note, the Vista Del Mar Park, at the end of 24R/L is a great spot for taking pictures of planes as they take to the air. Granted mostly you'll end up with pictures of the bottom of the planes....

Just took a few today:
UAE216 A380 out of LAX

BAW282 B744 out of LAX

UAL934 B772 out of LAX (I think, not 100% sure)

Also its a nice place to watch the sunset!

My son is crazy for airplanes and I plan to take him to LAX today to watch the big ones land...

Here's what I found:

info via a380flights.com:
Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX)
http://www.airport-la.com/

Routes ( 16 )

Los Angeles (LAX) - Seoul (ICN), KE018, 11:00 - 17:25 h (+1) (2/4/6)
Seoul (ICN) - Los Angeles (LAX), KE017, 15:00 - 08:45 h (2/4/6) ** it looks like this flight now arrives around 10:40

Los Angeles (LAX) - Tokyo (NRT) - Singapore (SIN), SQ011, 15:45 - 03:10 h (+2)
-> Los Angeles (LAX) - Tokyo (NRT), SQ011, 15:45 - 19:15 h (+1)
Singapore (SIN) - Tokyo (NRT) - Los Angeles (LAX), SQ012, 09:25 -13:30 h
-> Tokyo (NRT) - Los Angeles (LAX), SQ012, 19:15 - 13:30 h

Los Angeles (LAX) - Paris (CDG), AF065, 15:50 - 11:20 h
Paris (CDG) - Los Angeles (LAX), AF066, 10:30 - 13:05 h

Los Angeles (LAX) - Dubai (DXB), EK216, 16:00 - 19:50 h (+1)
Dubai (DXB) - Los Angeles (LAX), EK215, 08:20 - 12:50 h ** it looks like this flight now arrives around 14:15

Los Angeles (LAX) - London (LHR), BA268, 21:30 - 15:45 h (+1) (2/4/6
London (LHR) - Los Angeles (LAX), BA269, 16:15 - 19:15 h (2/4/6) - Day (1/5) BA283 ** it looks like BA283 arrives around 12:45

Los Angeles (LAX) - Sydney (SYD), QF012, 22:30 - 8:10 h (+2)
Sydney (SYD) - Los Angeles (LAX), QF011, 15:05 - 9:50 h

Los Angeles (LAX) - Melbourne (MEL), QF094, 23:15 - 9:40 h (+2), (3/5/7)
Melbourne (MEL) - Los Angeles (LAX), QF093, 12:10 - 7:30 h (3/5/7)** it looks like this flight now arrives around 06:35

Los Angeles (LAX) - Seoul (ICN), KE012, 23:50 - 06:20 h (+2)
Seoul (ICN) - Los Angeles (LAX), KE011, 19:50 - 13:40 h ** it looks like this flight now arrives around 15:40

So it looks like there's a solid group that start arriving into LAX around 12:50 and then there's a string of them at 13:05, 13:20, 13:30 and 13:40. That's a lot of movement.

Updated with info from flightradar24.com

Where do you plan to view?

Imperial Hill or In-n-Out?

I like the latter for the close-up views of the landing planes right overhead. The former is great for all of the parked planes in a row at TBIT.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Also, any info on when the Asian A380 starts flying to LAX?

I'm planning to view from in-n-out or right underneath the airplane on the sidewalk. I think my 3yrold son will enjoy that more. I haven't been to the hill but read a lot about it here...

BTW - LAX just tweeted that the inaugural Asiana A380 landing is today. Make sure you add that your list!
