You probably could have prodded him into finding that room without the $20, since it wasn't actually an upgrade. In general clerks are unable to upgrade comped rooms and if they do, the higher rate will come out of your comp account.

To be honest with you I dont know that she did see the $20. It was around 3pm and the desk was very busy with people both sides of me. I asked if any suits were going for free and placed the $20 in front of my MasterCard so that no one else would see it. To be fair to the girl on the desk, she did check the computer, but then looked at me rather then the MasterCard & $20. Maybe I should have been more obvious but I didn’t want to push it too much as other people were around. Of course, would one no have been there, I would have just asked straight and handed her the $20.
Im heading out to Vegas again end of the month I think, so maybe I will try then. If anyone has had any joys at other hotels in the last week please share....

In Cancun, anything goes. Just a caveat though. You may give them your money and they surely will take it, but you won't know if you actually got an upgrade until you see your room. What they say and do is completely different in Mexico.

Tipping at the Luxor Front desk will get you a better room for sure, but the upgrade inventory there is extremely limited in comparison to higher quality properties on the strip. Why not try for a more upscale property where your gift will get you a really nice suite? As an example, Mandaly Bay's base rates are usually not alot more then the Luxor and they have a significant inventory of all suite floors, you would even be a very short walk away from the Luxor through MB Place and can use your OneClub card at both casinos.
Good Luck.

How about Mohegan Sun in CT?
I am going to be there next week on business and wanted to know if anyone's had any luck with an upgrade there as well?
Last year I was upgraded to a beautiful two room suite because I found someone in the original room assigned to me when I got to it! The bellman was a nice guy, so I sarcastically said to him "boy, I think that I should be taken care of for this!" He promptly called downstairs and told the front desk clerk that I was upset and then walked me over to the suite. I tipped him $15 and thanked him.
I guess the $20 trick should work there as well. Any experiences there?

Seriously though, I've also got 2 night at Signature@MGM when I'm there as well.
Anyone been to comment on whether it works there?

Is anyone here familiar with rooms at Paris Las Vegas? We are currently booked in a premium view room, but may try the $20 trick there. The only problem is I cannot find any suite types, etc to "ask" for. If anyone out there is familiar with any of the suites, I would love to know what to request! Thanks!!

BTW, It worked last month at TheHotel at MB, to highest floor with a GREAT view. But they forgot to tell us (and actually denied it for 2 days) that they were tearing up the floor in Mixx (directly above) with jackhammers, starting at about 7am!!
