We'll be staying at the LV Hilton for Labor day weekend. We're staying on some kind of marketing deal the hotel offered for a slot tournament. The room is complimentary for Sat, Sun, & Mon and they quoted us $59 for Tues night.
We're Hilton Diamond members and will be checking in around noon on Saturday. Would it do us any good at all to try to upgrade with cash, if so, how much and what kind of suite should we ask for?

Thanks!

If you're comped and a good player, you might ask for an upgrade and not even need a bribe ...tip... or whatever you call it.

We play at the Venetian, we asked for the Venetzia, and they just gave it to us (and have many times since). I don't ask for any fancier room (like a deluxe suite), because it would be a total waste (don't spend much time in the room, and the normal suites are more than roomy).

I don't count on anything from our amount of play, I'm surprised we were included in on this promotion, LV Hilton must be very hard up. We stayed at the Venetian over Memorial Day, we called the front desk to see about an extended check out. Front desk staff said she would check with casino marketing or a host if we had one and call back. She did call back:
"I'm sorry Mr & Mrs Pup, due to your rate of play we are unable to extend your checkout for 30 minutes."

Me & the new wife got addicted to "Crazy 4 poker". We couldn't stop winning. They rated us together so we were averaging $120 a hand and had about 30 hours at the table over the 7 days.

That seems pretty fair, with regard to the comp; since you did a solid 4 hours per day (as an average over the 7 days) at over $100/hand. It will be interesting to see what marketing offers you receive over the next 6 months. Please report back about those.

Also, while I have heard about "Crazy 4 Poker" --- I never really looked into it much. Though, the house edge is quite low (around 1%) if you play close to perfect strategy. My guess, is that for comp purposes, they figure more like 3% (i.e. more in line with other poker carnival games) --- so, good play can really yield some nice comp benefits.

If you haven't yet, you might want to check out The Wizard of Odds analysis of the game --- it is pretty interesting.

Anyway, now I'm really curious, flipside; what was your approximate "win" for the 30 hours of play ?

The strategy they mention on that site is what I saw a lot of people doing, and at the same time, getting creamed. K-Q....

Ours was to only play an Ace and a face or better, and bet heavy up front on the queens up bet ($30-$50 depending on the streak) and the minimums on the back, in this case 15x2. I know it's all probability and the "cards don't have a memory" but its uncanny how the good hands came in streaks. When we were on a run of good cards we'd bet heavy on the front and then pull back when the cards went "cold". Between the 2 of us we were almost always winning something.

After perfecting our strategy we were up over $10k at the end of the trip. I'll also point out that we dropped $1k-$1.5k a couple times before we got any cards, but then the good hands would kick in and win 4 to 5 times that. We got trips so many times it was truly scary. But for all the time we played, we hit a strait flush twice, and never saw anyone get four of a kind.

They Wynn uses table four from that chart, but what it doesn't show is that 4 aces pays 200 to 1 on the super bonus.

THANKS for the report...

The LV Hilton is pretty well known for "attitude" issues among the Hilton Hhonnors community. They are a Hilton but are very begrudging about giving the usual amenities to the various elite levels. I'm not surprised they have an "attitude" on this side as well.

Red face Dumb ... Question

Has anyone tried this trick with airline ticket agents at time of check-in at the airport?

not likely to work since most upgrades are already called by elites. there isn't a lot of flexibility to move things around.

of course, getting higher up on the standby list is a possibility since this generally just the agent writing on a piece of paper, but I've never tried

It works in certain countries.

The $20 trick actually works much better on non comped rooms. For comped rooms, there's not a lot of flexibility on the part of the check in agent as Casino Marketing is "paying" for the room.

I find this to be very true. Our room is usually blocked by our host before we even arrive. Tough to get a change out of the front desk.

You couldn't have said it better. The Hilton name needs to be removed from this property. It used to be a part of Park Place Entertainment, but now it is owned by some outfit that has never owned properties in Vegas.

It's no secret if you are on a promotion or HH points, get ready to get a lousy room. Our's was horrible, trash laid in the hallway for 2 days (even after complaints), the marble desk fell off the wall in our room...the list goes on. Hilton and I are about to go to war over the points I spent on this hotel...and that includes photos of their lousy room.
