I'll be honest though, to us, $5,000 to gamble is a lot of money...but to the casinos, over a 4 or 5 day period, frankly, it's not a lot, so don't expect much from them.

Do like kaukau suggests and get a player's card and make sure you use it whenever you're at the slots (ugh!) or the tables.

They will monitor and rate your play, but remember; it's not if you win or lose, it's how much your average bet is and how long you play, that determines the comp level, if any.

One tip: when the pit boss is watching you play, add a couple more chips onto your stack to make it seem like your average bet is larger than what it really is

Good luck and please post again (or PM me) after your trip and let us know how you made out.
Ok got back from the trip.....didn't get to wire the $10k as I didnt have enough time to do that before I left.

Got to Vegas after 12 hours of flying and was so tired. Went to the check in desk and layed down $50 and told the bloke that the $50 was his if he could get us upgraded to a suite. The bloke checked on the computer and said that they were all sold out (there was some big convention going on in vegas that weekend). So we didn't get any upgrades.

After that went with my $5k to the tables to play my double up system and try to win. Won around $300 in the hour and called it a night.

Next morning me and my mate was up at 5am and walked the strip and got something to eat. Hit the tables and lost around $2k. Was screwed off as I thought that my double up system would work!

Chilled out for the rest of the day and hit the tables in the afternoon. Won back $1200.

Drank myself silly that night and hit the tables next morning and won around $200. That afternoon lost $3k! Game over for me. No more gambleing. My proven system dont work and I so we just drank and chilled out.

When checking out, they copmed my room which was nice of them. So saved around $1k.

So, over all, no upgrade but the bloke checking in was open to it. Lost around $4k but got a copmed room- and no bloody system works!

I hope you are joking.. of course, no "bloody system" works --- well, unless that system involves dice control, counting (with good conditions), or shuffle tracking (with even better conditions).

With a 5K bankroll, played the right way, you "should" have at least scored yourself RFB for the weekend; only "positive" --- if I can find one, is that you "might" get a nice invite or two back (for a future stay).

Systems never work (though, sometimes you do get lucky in the short term); loss limits, some degree of money management, PATIENCE, and good game selection can often help you live to "gamble another day" when the going gets rough.

true! If there was a guaranteed system that ALWAYS worked, I'd quit my job and move out there.

Whether it works or not is up to the front desk clerk at the time of check-in.

Tried the $20 trick at Caesar's last Friday...unfortunately it didn't work. I think it was the desk clerk, though--he seemed nervous. We had a deluxe tower room and asked to be upgraded to a suite or Augustus tower room. He picked up the phone for awhile and then said he had no such rooms available. Oh well, better luck next time...

Sometimes the hotel is packed and nothing is available, other times its not.
Sometimes the clerk will do it for $20, other times they'll want more.

If getting the suite is really important, suck it up and pay for it. Otherwise, it is Vegas after all: you have to be willing to take a chance...
If the front desk and/or hotel is savvy, they will check availability and frequently will charge a nominal fee to upgrade your room. We recently paid an additional $20/night to upgrade to a suite at 5-star hotel.

Advice on the trick

Hey everyone,

My wife and I are going to vegas in 2 weeks and since I've just started reading up on the $20 trick, I've got some questions.
First of all, we booked the room on Expedia with airfare, will that matter at all with trying to get the upgrade. Second of all, we have a room in the west wing booked already, what do you think is appropriate to offer for an upgrade to the celbrity spa suite with a view. I would absolutely love to surprise my wife with it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

One More Thing

We also have the option of checking in at MGM Grand itself or using the airport checkin. We should get there around 1:30-2:00 P.M. Which location do you think would give better results?
Thanks again

Hi there,

I think that you're going to struggle with a two week stay to be honest. I think if you're going to try for 2 weeks you're going to need to have a $100 rolled up under your card. If you look at some of the earlier posts in this thread you'll see what has worked for people with regards to MGM.

No no we aren't going for 2 weeks, we are going in about 2 weeks. Our actual stay is five nights. We are also going the week before Christmas if that makes a difference. It looks like they may be less busy then as many of the shows are on break that week.
Does that make any difference?

Of course, there are never any guarantees, but I would think since you are going to be there during a slow period, that you will have a better chance of the "trick" working.

I get lots of free room offers at this time of year, and most of the time, I get upgraded when I check in, mainly because there is no one there this time of year. I was upgraded to a Petite Suite on my last stay at the Paris and I was already getting the room for free.

Wow, this thread is great. Very interesting to see what works where and how much.

I am a frequent visit to Vegas and have had my share of comp'ed upgrades at various properties but will be going over Christmas and figure might as well give the old bill slip a try (knowing me I'll probably fumble with the bill and have it fall on the floor -- maybe score a pity upgrade :-))

Anyway, staying at the Orleans and got a great 1/2 price offer so the room is basically $25 for three nights and $50 for two (5 nights total).

Saw some previous posts re: The Orleans and was wondering if it was worth a go with such a highly discounted rate. Was thinking a $100 might seal the deal but $50 might work just as well. Any others have experience at the Orleans? Was thinking just asking if any suites were available and putting the bill under the card in view. How blatant can one be displaying the bill without looking foolish?

Thanks.
