I would say the odds are against you for a 10 night stay. The best upgrade I got was for a 2 night stay. In my experience, if they can do it (based on the individual hotel and availability), a $20 usually will seal the deal. At Bellagio, that may buy you a lakeview or tower deluxe king, but don't be holding your breath for the Bellagio suite. I did read in another thread that someone got a penthouse upgrade from a Amex FHR rate for $100 so you never know...That's the beauty of Vegas and why the $20 trick is your first gamble !

Will be at the Bellagio from 02/26 till 03/02 in a standardroom, I received a nive deal from the Slot Host. Two nights for free and two nights at casinorates.

Is it worth to try the trick, because I've done a little reading in this thread, and noticed some people say it's not working on casinorate rooms.

Anyone who has possitive experience with this, especially in the Bellagio?

Back from the Orleans. Did not "flash" the green but did chat-up the front desk and asked about an upgrade. The attendant must have been really new and asked what I suppose was the manager, who much like a previous post looked at the rate (which was a steal $25/night) and said $100/night. Now if I spent any amount of time in my room $125 is certainly a good deal but it is Vegas after all. I politely said no thanks. There was a rather large video poker tournie on the first few days of our stay.

The attendant did give me a room on a private key-coded floor with a very nice view (the suites were on the same floor behind brass gates, kind of different) which we were more than happy with.

I don't know if you're looking to get anything else comped, but my experience at MGM from a few years ago was that they charged your comp account for whatever type of room you were actually in, not what you booked.

American Airlines used to have a deal there where platinums could get an upgrade to a suite if available at check-in. Regular rooms counted about $100 a night against your comp account and suites were over $200. Even though my suite was "paid" for through the AA deal, when I went to get food/beverage comped, the casino charged the suite rate against my account. In other words, I got $100+ / night less in comps than I would have gotten if I had stayed in the regular room which was comped before I arrived. I tried arguing this for a while, but got nowhere.

I don't know if this is still the practice at the MGM or other MGM Mirage properties, but you may want to find out first if getting more comps is a priority for you.

Just a thought, but I have a booking at THEhotel @ Mandallay. Given that all the rooms appear to be suites, is there so much of a difference between them to merit putting a few $$ over the counter ?

I got rejected at the MGM two weeks ago. Put $50 under my credit card and asked about an upgrade for a two night stay. She checked me into my regular room and handed me back my card and the $50 and asked what the cash was for. It worked last year at The Hotel at Mandalay.

Same here in the summer with the MGM...it rarely works there...too bad.

I hope the next clerk just pockets the $20 and stares at you. If you don't merit the upgrade on your own, you should feel silly bribing into one. But, everyone to their own sin.

I've got to plan a trip to your planet some time.

Sounds like standby my man's planet is cold, very very very cold and the air must be extremely thin...I don't think anyone should visit that part of the galaxy.

I haven't seen an answer to this yet, but I was wondering the same thing. In your experience, do the airport workers have as much discretion with room assignments and affinity for Andrew Jackson?

I'm also curious about this. Has anyone successfully used the $20 tip strategy at the airport check-in desk?

@ BLI-Flyer

Why don't you try it for yourself? If the man/woman behind the desk says no, what do you expect? Punishment? Cancellation of your room?

To be honest, I don't really understand every "Does it work there"-question?

Getting a $20-upgrade is based on availability, how long you stay, if the hotel employee likes you or not ...
