I wonder if anyone here has had a look at an employee's manual from one of the hotel-casinos? If so, is this subject specifically addressed (or is it left to "discretion")?

As mentioned, its a bribe not a "tip". And bribes work very well all over Las Vegas. One of the few things that haven't changed in 40+ years, and one of many things I like about the town.

One more good thing about Vegas, once you buy someone, they stay bought.

What does $20 get at Strat?

I'll be going to Vegas during X-mas weekend, and I know sometimes around that time the city is kinda empty. How good of an upgrade can I expect at the Strat for $20? They have about a dozen different rooms. Should I specifically ask if they will upgrade me to a tower or spa suite, or should I just ask "any upgrades available?"

P.S. I've only been to Vegas once, stayed at both Strat and Paris, and was upgraded to view rooms for free, off of the "I've never been to Vegas" request.

Went to the Venetian May 05 & tried a walk-up quote & was told they were sold out...$20.00 later a room became available imagine that! The walk-up rate was quoted at $169.00 for a Sunday night. So what did I learn, $Money$ talks!!!

That's interesting. How exactly did you do it? slowly slide the twenty across the desk, pretending like neither of you notice it? or did you say something like "do you have any rooms available for Andrew Jackson"?

you didn't need a bill to get the george washington suite - a quarter would have worked just as well.

Most hotel clerks would probably look up a reservation for Andrew Jackson as they have no clue who is on the $20.

very interesting topic

I am going to Vegas in July, staying at NY, NY. I already have a Jacuzzi Suite, but I hear there are nicer. I wonder if the $20 would work. Only drawback is that I am traveling with the boss and he expects to check in at the airport when we arrive (he says it saves the time wasted waiting for the bags to get to baggage claim, and saves the time at the hotel having to fill out the paperwork. But you still have to get the key from the hotel desk so where is the gain?) - I don't think this would work there.

The airport checkin counter is a satellite of the main checkin counter. You get your key and other "documentation" there.

The $20/50 trick has worked for me there...

MGM - airport check-in?

We will be staying at the MGM in Oct for 2 nights (Sat & Sun) and have a confirmed deluxe room at Players card rate. Has anyone had luck with the $20 slide at the airport check-in for getting a suite?

Thanks,

Gwen

Any idea how much / what one should ask for at Mandalay Bay? I am going there next week for a confernce (Since it is in the Hotel, I am doubting there will be any rooms, but who knows).

Who stays in their room in LAS long enough to enjoy an upgrade??? Then again, it's always sad when I have to pay for a room in Vegas.

I agree. I'm hardly ever in the room when I'm in Vegas.
