Maybe we once meet in Vegas for a beer?
Or may that be more possible in another mileage run with Deutsche Bahn trains from/to FRA in the near future... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif Have fun and don't loose all you money (Thank God it's not possible to set your miles in any casino game...) http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/cool.gif [This message has been edited by ralfkrippner (edited 04-19-2002).] |
Luxor - What room to choose?
Hi
My friend and I are off to the Luxor for a week next week. Does anyone have any recommendations about which room to go for, i.e. pyramid or tower? And within those options are there any further options I could look at? Bearing in mind we're using discounted tickets so no chance of upgrades etc. Many thanks Andy |
I read many LV websites and reviews about the Luxor before staying there last year. Many people seemed to recommend the Tower Rooms verses the Pyramid Rooms stating that they thought the Pyramid rooms were tired feeling and noisy. I an "princess" when it comes to hotel rooms and we had a Pyramid rooms and didn't have any problems with noise on the 3rd flower and found our room to be very adequate. It wasn't 4 seasons luxurious but it was definitly on par with a very standard Hilton/Marriott room. The pyramid rooms are much more convenient to activities within the Luxor.
As a side note the spa at the Luxor is open 24 hours. You can have a massage at 2AM if you are so inclined. :D |
Hi,
I thought that the pyramid rooms have only shower ( no baths) unless you upgrade to a jacuzi tub room. The towers have a bath and shower. I have heard that in the pyramid you can wait a while for the inclinators. I have stayed there a few times and always enjoyed the tower. Regards TBS |

Regards TBS There are gaurds checking keys to make sure only hotel guests are using the inclinators. FYI- the first four floors are also served by a set of "regular" elevators. I waited alot longer at Bally's for elevators. |
I prefer the tower rooms.
As mentioned: The novelty of the inclinators, the security check at the inclinators (to keep non-guests off the inclinators), and the sloped walls of the room wears off after the first night. Plus, if you're on the far inclinator (#4 IIRC), you've got a daily hike to the inclinator and then to your room. Plus, if the aliens show up (drawn by the light on top of the Pyramid), you know they are going do in the Pyramid before the tower. So you've got a few more min to escape. That's a huge advantage. Be sure to ask about an upgrade to a Tower suite at checkin. They charged us $50/night extra last year and it is a very nice suite. This was on an "internet-only-ridiculously-discounted-found-here-on-FT" rate. Well worth the extra $. |
I've gambled at the Luxor many times, but never stayed there. I have always wanted to though, I think it's the coolest hotel on the strip. Why go to the Luxor and then stay in the tower? To me, that would be like any other "normal" hotel in Las Vegas.

I suppose...but if your going to go next door to the pyramid anyway, why not go a little farther to the Mandalay Bay or NY-NY.
In my humble opinion (and thats all it is!) it's like going to visit New York, and then staying in New Jersey. Hey! It's right next door! ;) ;) |

Specific questions about the Luxor
Hello all! I have been to Vegas many, many times but I am taking my girlfriend for her first trip to Vegas (actually her first trip outside of the US Eastern Time Zone!!)....
I have stayed at the Venetian, NYNY and Harrah's before. We got an excellent rate ($49.00/night) at the Luxor since I am a travel agent. I have a few specific questions about the Luxor... 1) How are the rooms? I have heard that the $20 trick works here well and I am hoping it will work for me. I plan to slip a $20 or $50 under my IATAN card at check-in. 2) Does the Luxor offer airport check-in? If so, where at LAS is it located? 3) How is the pool? 4) Is the Egyptian museum worth the admission price or am I better off going to the ones at the Venetian? 5) Do the staff seem to be helpful? Thanks for answering and any other insight into the Luxor that you might have would be appericated!!! |

John Williams W/re: to the airport check-in, I do remember there being a big area for that right in baggage claim, but I can't remember if the Luxor was one of the hotels represented there-sorry. |
