I like Luxor a lot but there are definitely some down-sides to it.

-If you can get one of the recently renovated rooms, you'll be happier than with the unrenovated ones. Kind of goes without saying but at Luxor, especially in the Pyramid, it makes a huge difference

-The location is great because you can walk to MGM-Grand, NYNY, Mandalay, Excalibur, etc and get a change of scenery without taking a cab

-If you get a Pyramid room, request a high floor. The first 5 floors or so in the Pyramid are quite noisy because they're practically in the casino

-The one-bedroom suites are well worth the upgrade. Very spacious, comfortable, usually on or near the end of a corridor so it is quiet, but even if people are making a racket in the halls you won't hear it

-Check-in can be a nightmare, especially right at 4pm and again closer to midnight when the last planes from the East Coast arrive. So if you plan on getting there around those times, you might want to opt for baggage service and check in when the line dies down. Or get a Towers room because there is a separate checkin a level below for the Towers

-I've seen Luxor screw up a lot of the "simple" stuff like checking people into an uncleaned room (seriously my friend checked in and it was clear from the unmade bed that no housekeeping had been in there after the last guest) so bring your patience just in case you need it; they are pretty nice about taking care of their mistakes once you talk to the right person so if you have anything to complain about, make sure you are talking to a supervisor or manager and not just a regular front desk guy

-Try not to prepay for the room if you are a gambler because their Players Club comps have been very generous lately. If you do have to prepay, just make sure your bartabs, dinners, etc go on the room charge so they have a balance that can be comped

They have given the gaming floor and lobby a bit of a makeover recently which opened up a lot of space and seems to have done wonders for crowd control--- for a while there it was impossible to get thru the casino without getting stuck in with the LAX crowd which can sometimes be a pretty icky crowd to get stuck in. But it seems a lot more open and manageable there now. I find the dealers and pit bosses to be pretty friendly and while it's not the most high-energy place to gamble, it's still got a good vibe and a fun place to spend some time gaming

Personally I like Luxor a lot, never stayed at PH but I don't recall there being much around PH so you'd be cabbing everywhere....

I was sent a special code for those dates, plus I had a previous stay. The AAA rate is also $89, but not sure what dates they still have open.

I'm still waiting for my friend who lives in LV to email me back with her opinions, but I don't want to get stuck in an old or low floor room at Luxor. She's an event planner and knows a lot about the area.

There is good and bad at almost every resort, it is confusing.

But one thing my flt doesn't arrive until 3pm...prime check-in time.

I've always liked the Luxor. I heard they were changing the theme--removing the Egyptian stuff. Is this true?:confused:

A lot of remodeling going on. New clubs, however they are for the 21+ group, which is fine for me, but not for my daughter who is turning 19. I heard a rumor the Egyptian artifacts are not real, just props. Correct me if I am wrong. I have been to Egypt, albeit 1980, to Giza, ect, and viewed the real thing.

I did not want to get suck with a regular room, as in old without a sunken tub for the daughter.

So we are staying at PH.

Is this targeted? I tried and it says "expired"? :confused:

Hi everyone, just giving this site a try and finding some great info here. My wife and I have an upcoming stay booked at the Luxor and am curious if anyone has any info they could share with me.

How are the rooms? Pyramid or tower better to request?

How is the pool complex at the Luxor?

Do the lounges there or at the Mandalay Bay have some good "house bands" that play at night? Looking to have a good time but we're not really interested in the clubs.

Any other info would be much appreciated!

You'll find tons of info on Luxor and surroundings with a simple search in this sub-forum. To get you going, a few hints from me as I've spent more than my fair share of time in the pyramid!

Rooms in the pyramid are tired but the shape and the inclinators are kind of a cool experience if you haven't been before. I'd def stay in a Tower room - slightly bigger, slightly better.

Pools are ok but the last couple of times I've been, they've been part closed and the area has been filled with builders - looks as if they're doing some reconstruction. It's been a few months so not sure what it's like now.

There is live music in the Aurora lounge only on weekends I think. Hop over to the House of Blues at the Mandalay instead - more live action over there.

Note on food - don't bother with the buffet, it's been a downhill affair of recent and now an absolute no-go for me.

Luxor is in my humble opinion still decent value, although it's lost its shine a little over the last few years. They've tried hard with the recent remodeling and new carpets etc etc - I'm pretty sure the pyramid rooms are next up for a little makeover.

Hey G*G thanks for the info. I haven't been to the Luxor for about 5 years so am looking forward to seeing the changes they've made there. We'll be there over a weekend so will plan on checking out the Aurora lounge to see what's going on there. Will also check out the schedule at the House of Blues to see who's playing. At Mandalay, over by the Restaurants, there is a bar that has coverbands. Early in the evening they had a band playing disco type stuff. Later on Sat they had a rock band that the crowd loved. Quite good for that type of stuff.

Certainly not a "club" experience if you're looking for that though...

Lands, thanks for the info. Do you remember if the name of the lounge was "Mizuya" that you were talking about at Mandalay that played the disco and the other night rock?
