Thanks for the update, I was thinking of staying there, but now I am going to reconsider. I really hate the time share pushers. I heard good things a few years ago about the Luxor corner rooms, did you happen to stay in one of those?

I was in a corner room in the West Tower. While the room was certainly large, as previously mentioned it was in a general run-down state. Nicks and scratches were on the furniture, the drapes were older....and the smoke smell was very evident. (As it was throughout the hotel). I'm not a real hotel snob, but both my wife and I noticed a different odor in the Luxor as opposed to the other hotels.
Even if you can put up with the rooms, the time share thing will drive you crazy. It was no exaggeration, they are hawking these things every few feet. You would think that some of these employees would recognize/remember your face after a while, but they continue to push them rather mindlessly. (I'm sure that their commissions are riding on referrals). Beware of the guy/girl that promises "free tickets to a show...or asks if you are staying in town for one more night".
It was definitely my last stay there.

Huh, I was at the Luxor for our annual kickoff last year and didn't get that.

I did decide that it was worse than any other Vegas place I'd stayed except for Treasure Island.

They gave my room to someone else while I was at dinner than took thirty minutes and three sets of keys to realize it.

So they upgraded me to a three room suite, which was nice and large but in no better condition.

The maintenance guy who came to fix my barely working A/C was great though, and the workout facility was 10X as good as the MGM's and about half the cost.

WE stayed there very recently; standard room was fine (clean and odorless), bathroom in very good shape, timeshare people in front only and bothered us only once (huge difference from Aladdin, where we were chased and insulted by a woman who had issues, not once but three times). Casino air was good, won at slots, lost at slots, came out a little bit ahead at the end, drinks came frequently (even when we did the penny machines). We were allowed to check in several hours early, baggage handling was fast and friendly, restaurants (buffet and cafe) were fine, BUT: front desk people are borderline surly, don't seem to want to be there at all. I gave them feedback on a website asking me for my responses, and never got a reply about that. (I love Venetian, but my sister in law was infuriated by a dirty room, lousy service, and rude people at the front desk. Go figure--luck of the draw?)

So folks, heed the advise of others on this board. Stay away from this place.

My friends and I refer to it at as "Sux-or." While at a $25 smoking table at 2:00AM, the pitboss kept making comments about how much we smoked, the smell, and said she wished we would stop. :td: So we did stop.. gaming there!

Luxor hotel for 109$,

is it worth? How is it compared to Aladdin? I have reserved with spg points and I am a Gold SPG member.

Edit? How is the http://www.mandalaybay.com/promotions/, I can get a room for 99$ with so many freebies. Is it close to strip? If not, how far is it?

You could spend years working out what a good hotel in Vegas is, and you should work as many of those forums as possible.

There are also forums that discuss nothing but the many buffets available in town.

10,000 SPG points a night is a bit expensive for the Aladdin. I've done it during expensive periods like New Year's Eve, but for a regular weekday stay, I'd definitely look at the Mandalay Bay for $99 a night or the Luxor for $109.

Of the three hotels, Mandalay Bay is the nicest - nicest rooms, nicest common areas, good restaurants, and a nice casino. At $99 a night, it's a bargain, and I would go for that option if it was me. It's only negative is that it's at the far south end of the strip; however, that's offset by a free tram that runs to the Luxor and Excalibur, so it's not too bad.

The Luxor is a good hotel-casino. The rooms are fair - the tower rooms are newer and in better shape; the pyramid rooms are nice, but a bit worn - you do have the novelty of a sloping wall and getting to use the "inclinators." The casino is rather worn and could use an update.

Aladdin is nice, but there's construction going on right now which limits the casino and common areas. The rooms are nice and not affected by the construction. The big advantage to the Aladdin is location. It's across the street from the Bellagio and right in the heart of the strip.

Given how many points it takes to stay at the Aladdin, I would definitely go with the Mandalay Bay or Luxor instead. $99 is a great deal for the Mandalay Bay, which would be my first choice.

Mandalay for $99/night? Take that deal any day of the week, and twice on Saturday...

skofarrell Oct 24, 2006 9:51 am

Luxor for $59 a night, yes. $109 no.

faithng Oct 24, 2006 5:44 pm

Mandalay Bay would be my choice between the three.
Luxor (standard room) is just okay and definitely not worth the $109.

sylvia hennesy Oct 24, 2006 5:53 pm

Absolutely, the most you want to pay for the Luxor is ~$89, unless you need a room when rooms are scarce. Mandalay for $99 is terrific. It's the south end of the strip, but you can take the tram from Mandalay--Luxor--Excalibur, then onward down the strip by foot or bus. (Forget the new train, it's too hard to get to, and too expensive.) I like the Luxor, but not over Mandalay for $99!

Fully agree. Please do a search and read my review of the Luxor in an earlier post. To quote another poster: "The place is a tomb".
