Hi,
Like the other postetrs have said, Go with the Mandalay Bay for $99 ( excellent value for money). At $99 for MB, the Luxor would have to be priced at les than $69 for me to consider the Luxor ( the tower rooms are fine and Luxor is ok( lobby/casino is a bid dark) but the mandalay bay is nicer, very good buffet, there is a walking/jogging path round the outside of the pool , the rooms are very nice. Regards TBS PS the promotion makes MB even better value for money ( with the 2 buffets and 2 spa passes ( the MB fitness center is good) |
Rooms at the Luxor
Hi all,
I'm coming to Vegas June 22-24 with two friends, looking to spend about $500 on our hotel room. It will be my first time there!!! The Luxor seems to be a nice compromise between price and quality, although I can't say I'm won over by their room, according to different websites/travelers reviews. What do you guys think? Also, any special offers lately there? Any hotel in the same range you'd advise? Thanks! Ben. |
The summer solstice is non-peak season in LAS and you ought to be able to score a room for the weekend for waay less than $500. Try priceline.

I was just there last week and was in love with the property...$20 trick worked like a charm, got a great deal (PDMILL code, see if it's available for your dates), loved playing in the casino, enjoyed Fantasy, great location, everyone was beyond helpful...Ultimately I wound up paying about $100 more than I would have at the Aladdin for a four-night stay, but it was worth every penny.

It's a room, and certainly not the worst you've ever stayed in.

Can't tell if you want to pay $500 for the stay or $500 per night. If $500 per night, you can stay anywhere - go to Bellagio or Wynn and knock yourself out in a suite.
If $250 a night, there are still several good alternatives according to www.kayak.com. The Westin Casuarina is $190 - not a wacked out casino hotel, but its location puts you in the heart of true Vegas - Bellagio, Caesars and Paris all an easy walk. Bally's is $245 and the room is probably equivalent to Luxor, but it's again at center Stirip right across from Bellagio. Platinum is $226 - a new condo hotel, so the rooms are huge and much nicer than a typical hotel room. It's about a block off the Strip, similar to Westin. New York New York is $210 and for a true Vegas experience, I'd vote for it over Luxor. It's also closer to center Strip. Park Avenue rooms are newer and a bit more; Broadway rooms are bigger and a bit more but still under $250 a night. MGM is $240. I'm not a fan of this over-sprawled hotel - you can do better with options above. |

Thanks abefroman, I think Luxor it will be. Where did you get your code? Looks like it expired now :( As for the $20, I read the thread and will definitely try, although I have to say I'm a little scared to do it. Only time I ever tried a bribe was to get into a club wearing sneakers in philly. The guy said "you take care of me, I take care of you" - $5 did it. Cheap bouncer :D :D :D |
Also, can't find a flight under $500 with those dates (fri june 22 to sun june 24).
Any ideas? |
You might want to check the following for great deals in LV during the summer months:
http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/ Luxor is listed but I did not compare the dates with those you wanted. Flights do indeed look expensive...have you tried SWA from Long Island? Probably not the best alternative but the direct flights are pricing at approx. $340 for your dates. |

It's not like they're gonna cancel your reservation and call the cops, worst that will happen is that they won't be able to upgrade you and they'll give you your $20 back. |

Perhaps it was just one bad day. Certainly the room was good, and I loved the King Tut exhibit. |
And what I don't understand: Why doesn't the Luxor have ONE line for all check-in counters ?!?

try www.usairways.com for their vacation packs.. i'm actually finding some rather good deals from PHL for a 2-3 day trip in early July.
MUCH MUCH better than orbitz, for example. |
Luxor Just Okay
Stayed there last week myself for the first time. Observations that may help you:
1. Get an upgraded tower room when you book. They offer plenty of deals with a free upgrade. Room is nicer, newer than the pyramid rooms and they have a separate walk-in shower. 2. Rooms are a little better (but not much) than a typical 3-star Strip property. Pretty much on par with the Aladdin room. Better than the basic Flamingo-quality room. 3. Property itself is large and dysfunctional. Ongoing construction in the center of the casino floor creates a no-so-attractive atmosphere. 4. Check-in is crowded. If you get a tower room, bypass the main check-in and go to the desk at the lobby level of the West hotel tower. They will check you in there and no lines. 5. Food choices are basically high-end overpriced or fast food overpriced. (Almost $20 for a hot dog meal for two at Nathan's???) Did have some wonderful appetizers at Fusia one evening. 6. Location is not ideal for walking the strip, but there is a tram in front that connects Luxor with Mandalay Bay and Excalibur. Not horrible if you get a great deal but I doubt if I will stay there again. |
