Wife and I stayed at Luxor last November for our first time.
I got the Poker Room rate. Stayed in the pyramid and found the room satisfactory without being overwhelming but why go to Vegas to stay in your room. 2 years ago we stayed at MGM. Room nicer but still spent no time at all there. Previous poster suggested MGM closer to action. True but only a few hundred metres. We had a car and would just drive up the strip and park in whichever property we were visiting. As long as you do not do it during peak traffic was not a problem. Handy to visit the Malls and Fry's and other places around. We had driven in on a monday evening in peak so traffic can be a problem. Luxor renovating when we were there but even though check-in line was long it did not take too long checking in as they had plenty of staff. |
Towe rooms are a hair bigger than pyrimad. Definatley reccomend 20 dollar trick it has worked there for me 2 for 2

I am no fan of sUXOR, or anything on that end of the strip. It depends on your age demographic, but in your price range I'd look at the Flamingo or MGM. Both offer a better location and amenitites.

Regular pyramid to regular tower? I booked a tower room and hope to get an upgrade to suite tower with the $20 trick... |
Hope its not too late
http://www.southwest.com/cgi-bin/vacationsTab?ss=0 One Bedroom Suite 22-24 June with SouthWest Vacations at Hilton Grand Resort on the Strip from Islip $634 Each Including Non-stop Flights, Taxes and Hotel Suite for 2 Nights |
Thanks all for your help.
In the end, booked a tower room on the luxor website, using their "MVP" package (15% off, no refund possible). 2 nights (fri/sat) for $380, that's really not bad. And still hoping the $20 trick will get us in a suite. As for airfare, I still had a $99 companion ticket on Continental, combined to the regular fare of (wow) $620 out of EWR, that's a total with taxes of $770. Grand total, $575 each and my friend loves the luxor, so I'll trust her on that ;-) Can't wait to see Vegas! |

Try FatWallet.com. Go to the travel forum and hit on Las Vegas. They seem to have every deal out there.
I was there earlier this month, stayed at MGM. Got a suite for $139 iirc and used the $20 tip when checking in at the airport. The swimming pools were certainly awesome as well. Michael

I wouldn't put too much hope in a suite upgrade on a busy weekend for a $20 tip at checkin. Worth trying, but my gut tells me no way. Now that you have your room set, be sure to ask us about other activites you are considering for your first visit. I'm not sure I trust your friend's judgement. (Just kidding!) Sirecca |
Luxor--- worth the price to upgrade?`
I'm going to Vegas for a few days, staying at the Luxor, and I am contemplating springing for a nicer room. Last time I was at the Luxor, I had the standard Tower room and it was just fine; they're supposed to be a bit nicer than the Pyramid rooms, which is what I have booked this time out.
I have several upgrade choices and I really don't mind paying the extra money if the nicer room is "worth" it so I am hoping someone who has stayed in a Pyramid Spa Suite or a Players's Suite can give me a review. The website doesn't really have much to go on. I can afford the price difference but don't want to spend money if it's not a dramatically better room. I would prefer to stay in the Pyramid, strictly because every time I have stayed at Luxor, I've stayed in a Tower room and I am dying to ride on the Inclinator. But I do have about 8 other people going with me, most of whom are staying in the Pyramid, so I can get an Inclinator fix if I need. I might just take my chances with the $20 trick, too. In Vegas, the room is really only for sleeping, but I must admit, I am a little spoiled and picky. My last 4 business trips have included some wonderful accomodations. Yep, I am definitely getting spoiled. Reviews? |
Aloha, dcpatti.
Here's a couple of threads already going on the Luxor that you'll find germaine to your inquiry: http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...ighlight=luxor And here: http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...ighlight=luxor This should get you started. Good luck in Vegas! |
I got upgraded from the standard crappy pyramid room into a top-floor players suite (five room) when they put another family in my room - with my luggage still there. Including my work computer. And it took them 45 minutes to figure it out.
I have to give the manager props: he didn't even have to look at my face to know that some serious butt-kissing was gonna be required. Plus they comp'd my wife's 6 hour spa treatment. The room was nice - we could see the strip and the airport (which I enjoy) and it was completely soundproof. The A/C was not working well and they got a very cool maintenance guy (he explained their evaporative a/c system) in to fix it immediately. |
DCPatti - Just make sure that you are not routed thru SAT...you will be ok !:)
Seriously, I have stayed in a Pyramid Suite. Honestly, I thought that it was not too special. (Although since it was comped...I really can't complain). The redeeming feature was the jacuzzi. It is right next to the window...which means that you will bang your head on the glass at least 2x during your stay if you are over 5'5". The room itself was rather worn...with frayed furnishings and nicks on the wooden TV console. I have also stayed in a Tower Suite...and found that nicer. (Although a longer walk to the casino). The inclinators are cool...until you try negotiating one at 5 AM after consuming a few beverages..;) There is lots of construction at the Luxor right now. A new bar, Aurora is up and running, and a new nightclub (LAX) and cocktail place (Flight) is due to open this summer, with a Cirque du Soleil show coming next summer. |
