JFK - AMS last week nothing at check in as had a domestic leg with Delta first, asked at the gate and was quoted 112,500 miles which I declined.
On board witnessed one guy accept from the Purser 35k miles + EUR600 to to go from his eco comfort seat to WBC.
Cannot understand some of these rates being quoted to FF’s by the airline for upgrades these days.

If you're talking about OLCI then you most likely won't get any extra XP, just like you don't get extra miles when buying an upgrade at OLCI (ignoring the odd random cases where you do get the extra miles). You should get the extra 4-8 miles per EUR you spend on the upgrade though.

For years, though, €79.-- was a good indication that the flight was overbooked in coach. If it wasn't, the price was €149.--, which later dropped to €129.--.

BON-AMS via AUA: no OLCI offer. When asked at the airport though, availability as indicated by staff changed from 1 seat only to 3 to 2 to 0 within some 30 seconds... so no price quoted after all. The last change from 2 to 0 was probably triggered by the discovery of special meals in the booking.

AMS to KUL today (14/2) - was given the opportunity (not going to say is an offer) to upgrade to business class for GBP 1,014 when I did my online check-in.
