I often fly out of JRO or DAR and depending on my client, I fly coach or business. If in Y I always ask for upgrade and it normally U$789 or 30.000 and €300 (yes euro... strange) when the flight is not full.
It is $289 when full or overbooked.
I have the number of the manager in TZ and always text him the day I fly so I am first in line if they have room.

I am flying AMS-JRO Thursday and I might be tempted at $289 (depends how hungover I'm likely to be Thursday).

You have to go to the ticket desk or go via there online services.
It will be in euro and probably more expensive. That is my feeling but I have no real proof for that.
But I had a booking to LAX in september where I paid 25.000 points and 400 cash for a day flight upgrade. I had the last seat.
(the points where never deducted from my account! )

What is the likely buy-up cost for AMS-KIX next March?
Economy is about 0.7K GBP, Business is 2.2K GBP.
Anything less then about 800 Euro per leg leaves me in profit! (Availability permitting, of course).
