Gf spotted H21 last Friday at a Roku display at Narita T2. Should have had her pick it up for me. I had no such luck today. Picked up my preordered Nikka 12 and a bottle of Master select for 10k yen. I did find a bottle of Hakushu 18 for 50k but passed. Did the sampler of Y18, H18, and H21 at the suntory whiskey house last week and enjoyed the hibiki the most by far.

English write up by Whiskey Richard over at Nomunication.

Closer to home, Yamazaki 18 is showing up at stores in Oregon. 2 bottles left in the state for $299.

Can a 20 year old bring a bottle of whiskey (duty free or checked bag) NRT-IAH-MIA? I’m sure the answer is no but am hoping to have son bring some back for me.

Alternatively, does anyone know if PEK has any Japanese whiskey?

Afraid not.

One American liter (33.8 fl. oz.) of alcoholic beverages may be included in your returning resident personal exemption if:

You are at least 21 years old.
It is intended exclusively for your personal use and not for sale.
It does not violate the laws of the state in which you arrive.

Honestly would even consider a flight over to pick em up. Would still be cheaper than Tokyo prices for an extra 50ml to boot.

Per my experience, people line up at those stores before they are open after the see the updated inventory list on the website.... I did get lucky last year with two bottles at $249 each.

Figured. Thanks for confirmation. I’ll be there myself but making a stop in PEK before return home. Oh well. Will look locally!

Are you kidding me? Going to China to buy this stuff?

I can tell you one thing though: definitely not in PEK duty free, it may be available in some shops in the city, but it will be crazy expensive.
(here's sample pricing in China: approx. US$1160 for Yamazaki 18, $400 for Yamazaki 12, $180 for Yamazaki NAS.)

Folks,

Let’s try to stay on topic (where to find Japanese whiskey in Japan) and refrain from commenting on the provenance of specific bottles, requests to buy/sell/trade whiskey, etc.

The Donki in Roppongi today (2019-10-21) had a bunch of the Yamazaki 12, as well as NAS Hakusu and Yamazaki.

Redditor u/PK430 scores Taketsuru 17 for 8860 and T21 for 16500 in random liquor stores near Toyama.

Unrelated: Y12 restock has hit norcal. Nabbed three bottles at $115+tax from Bevmo. Already polished one off.
