Just to kick start a wiki, with answers to frequent questions.
1. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. NGO-HNL is booked in business class, but HND-NGO is in economy. Will we still get the baggage allowance as if we're flying business class the whole way?
A: Yes. written here (link)
2. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. Will we have lounge access in HND?
A. Definitely, within the lounge access rules of course. written here (link)

better save your AA miles and book direct from HND to bypass ITM altogether.
or, have the hour layover in your separate flights.

If the HND-ITM flight gets delayed for whatever reason, you are cooked.
Remember that domestic connections have no transit security (same sterile area), but gates close 10 minutes to departure!
And the arrival time you have is touchdown time, not disembark time! So even if your inbound is on time, add 10 minutes for runway taxi and 10 minutes from next departure, you only have 15 minutes of leeway on your layover.
If you were on the same ticket, JL agents would know to wait for you and escort you to your next flight. Risky.
Yeah, I left booking until relatively the last minute, so a direct flight from HND is 3x what it would cost to book HND-ITM.

I think I'll heed your advice overall and depart HND earlier. At least I'll get to check out the Diamond Premier Lounge I guess.Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

Hopefully it won't be too busy.

I wonder how many BA miles would cost the new Tokyo - Vladivostok on JAL... probably a great redemption spot even with the recent changes

Does BA do zone based, then probably the same as Korea. Unless of course they consider Russia for Europe, then it would be a bit of a bummer. But more a question for the BA forum to answer.

not zone based anymore. They switched to distance based a while back. NRT-VVO roundtrip is 1352 miles so this falls into zone 3 which will cost 11,000 and 22,000 miles for Y and C respectively

now the question is how about JL? We still have a zone based scheme.

European or Korean zone. The NH press release termed it as the shortest European flight they had. JAL did at least not provide that nonsense statement....

And no, I don't seriously think JAL will charge a European zone for this flight.

forgot JL switches tin award+ so redemption is priced individually. So this will be grouped under Europe/Russia for sure. Now the question is how about upgrade? Will they add the route under Europe/Russia and price it similarly to Asia 1 or Korea?

How useful is WiFi on JL transpacific flights these days? I tried it on 788 (SAN-NRT) a couple of times a few years ago, but found it pretty much useless over the pacific. Is it any better on 77W by chance?

I find it very variable, but the northern routes seems to have very little satellite coverage. Making it worse from the US than from Japan.

Thanks. It looks like there are mixed reviews on WiFi over the Pacific. I might just take it as an opportunity to go fully offline,

if you have an iPass or boingo account, then it’s free to roam. I roam and find the wifi useful a few hours after takeoff and a few hours to landing.

Otherwise, not worth the money unless you have an important work email or two to push out during the flight (charge it to your company as “work”!!)
