Activating stored aircraft requires a C check and a lot of paperwork, both to recertifiy and register the aircraft under a new flag.

It looks like seatguru is incorrect then. It's still showing the old, aged 777LR. On the ex-DL planes I'm assuming business seats are fully flat seats without the dreaded middle seat in the center section?

Are these already in DEL? When are they being inducted into flying?

No rush. It'll probably take years. At least they don't have to change the seats, that would take decades.

Interesting Twitter post on why the ex-DL planes can't fly DEL-SFO.

But it is not just the AI B772s that go over the mountains, the B773s do also. This is a bit confusing---is this poster correct?

Couldn't the 77Ws also have the same customization? OP didn't seem to say the 77Ls were the only ones in the fleet with that customization.

Yes, OK.
But I guess I don't understand the whole oxygen thing. Planes fly over the ocean even though both engines could potentially fail(*). Why can't they fly over mountains even though the plane could potentially depressurize?
What level of probability is acceptable vs. not acceptable?
Are ocean routes allowed because there is no other way to fly between Europe/Asia and North America, whereas trans-Himalayan routes are only used to/from India and so who cares?
(*) Oh, maybe ocean routes are approved because the planes carry rafts and life jackets. Well, good luck with that. It's safety theater.
