Activating stored aircraft requires a C check and a lot of paperwork, both to recertifiy and register the aircraft under a new flag.

It looks like seatguru is incorrect then. It's still showing the old, aged 777LR. On the ex-DL planes I'm assuming business seats are fully flat seats without the dreaded middle seat in the center section?

Yeah Seatguru hasn't been updated with the ex-Delta planes yet, they use the Delta One suite in a 1-2-1 config.

Seatguru is no longer updated.

The best way to see seats on a specific flight is with a free account on EF, just start to set up a seat alert.

6 old ETIHAD 77Ws that AI took got their DGCA registrations:
  • VT-AEM
  • VT-AEN
  • VT-AEO
  • VT-AEP
  • VT-AEQ
  • VT-AER
Atleast EY had F seats - not sure what config they have come in to AI.. but 77Ws so mostly will be based in DEL I would guess to fly US routes.

AFAIR there is no plan to change the interiors/cabin.

Are these already in DEL? When are they being inducted into flying?

See my post #101 in this thread. The regs were already known in March. They are still in VCV.

No rush. It'll probably take years. At least they don't have to change the seats, that would take decades.

Interesting Twitter post on why the ex-DL planes can't fly DEL-SFO.

Interesting. That tweet says "This is largely because these aircraft (unlike the 3 legacy AI #B777-200LR - VT-ALF/ALG/ALH which were custom built for #AirIndia) do not have the oxygen systems required to overfly the the Hindukush mountains."

But it is not just the AI B772s that go over the mountains, the B773s do also. This is a bit confusing---is this poster correct?

Couldn't the 77Ws also have the same customization? OP didn't seem to say the 77Ls were the only ones in the fleet with that customization.

No but that is the apparent implication when three specific aircraft VT-ALF/ALG/ALH are listed.

Inferrence not implication.

OP was comparing between DL 77Ls and AI 77Ls. That's why the 77Ws weren't mentioned.

Yes, OK.

But I guess I don't understand the whole oxygen thing. Planes fly over the ocean even though both engines could potentially fail(*). Why can't they fly over mountains even though the plane could potentially depressurize?

What level of probability is acceptable vs. not acceptable?

Are ocean routes allowed because there is no other way to fly between Europe/Asia and North America, whereas trans-Himalayan routes are only used to/from India and so who cares?

(*) Oh, maybe ocean routes are approved because the planes carry rafts and life jackets. Well, good luck with that. It's safety theater.
