BTW got a Easyjet flight today in Europe and I was just thinking if a airline didn't do seat assignments in India. Imagine the rush to board! :p

i recall air deccan didnt have seat assignments until DGCA made seat assignments mandatory..... probably saved a few people from being trampled on

Hey all, Hope everyone is good.

Quick question. I have to book some tickets on 9W for a couple of friends and family members. It says on 9W website that if I am not traveling (credit card holder), then, I better get the travelers photocopy of the card, itinerary details, etc.

Any experience with this? I mean, will they not let the pax board without these documents?

I will make sure I get them the papers in hand. But, just wanted to see if they were really strict about this rule.

Agreed. You need to carry it, they hardly ever ask but you never know. They have full right to deny the pax boarding if the cc or copy of it not present.

Has anyone recently signed for an account at irctc.co.in ? I am trying to book some first AC tickets in the Rajdhani, but when signing up, they asked me to provide an Indian mobile. I gave my in-laws and after signing up, they said that they sent a code to the mobile and that I need to verify it. However after multiple attempts over several days, they did not receive a text.

It looks like one can book tickets through cleartrip. Is it easy to do so? Or would I need to log into the irctc website ultimately? How easy is it to cancel on cleartrip?

I have heard that in 1 AC one can book a coupe, is this true? If so I can't seem to have that option on cleartrip. It shows lower and upper berths.

Just book on cleartrip. IRCTC has become really bad for foreign credit cards. Almost none go through.

Also, with first AC, you cannot book a coupe yourself. You will only get upper or lower berths. Seating assignment for first AC is done only on the day of departure. They usually give coupes to two people with same last names or two people on the same ticket, etc.
Its not a guarantee. I have gone with my mom on a few trips and only half the time we got the coupe.

Waiting to see a towel or a hanky on a plane seat to secure a seat for others in the party.

Been there and seen that. Very common on Flights from the middle east to India.

Once I saw a man take his luggage and queue up at the exit BEFORE the aircraft had landed!!!:D

Another time a passenger stood up at his seat and was saying 'hello hello
one soda' to a cabin crew member who was on the other side of the aircraft!!!

Re Appeal to our US based Indian Origin FTers

Hi guys, just came across this tragic news affecting an Indian/American entrepreneur..

http://www.amitguptaneedsyou.com/

However, his South Asian ancestry means it's tough to find a match - of the nine million names in the National Bone Marrow registry in the US, only 160,000 are South Asian.

"So when Amit does a search he has a really small chance of finding someone who is going to match him. A Caucasian person on the other hand has a 93 % chance of finding a match," explains Tracy Julian, a spokesperson for the National Marrow Donor Program
If any one in the States would like to help out, creating awareness, I am not sure if they take any test/samples of Indian origin people outside the States? Pray that all turns out well for Mr Gupta
