Excellent, thanks! And given my identical inherent fascination with spas and coffee joints (both of which you have previously posted about your wife :D ), I am quite happy to value your wife's opinion on this! ;)

BTW, I am thinking of the highline version. Was yours the same? And did you go for diesel or petrol? Any suggestions on suitability on that front... Thanks!

i got the top of the line automatic version....definitely go with petrol if you want a better drive....

Did you really think so? I feel the Diesel offers the better drive in the VW's. Although the petrol Jetta is great with the turbo charged engine.

If you are a Petrol buyer then I would also consider the City as that offers the smoothest drive.

Top of the line is indeed the highline version I was looking at. (trendline is base version).

And I highline, there is either an automatic with petrol or a manual with diesel.

Remember, I won't be driving myself. So for the driver, I don't think gear choice should be a determinant!

Vento... Vento.....& Vento!!!!!!!!!!! No competition. Fiat you will be faced with Tata service stations and Tata sort of service.

VW has state of the art workshops and their customer service will be one of the best in a couple of years. The amount of money they are spending in India is amazing!

Besides the Vento is a much better car long term wise as you will get lesser deprication, more kmpl, cheaper to maintain & its a locally groomed product with the highest standards.

Ask away any other car related questions.

Thanks! So would you recommend the diesel version then over the petrol? The diesel in the highline only seems to come with manual gears, but this shouldn't be an issue as I won't be driving myself. The petrol version does have automatic gears though.

Does manual vs. Automatic actually lead to a difference in performance of the car, or is purely from an ease of driving / changing gears perspective?

it is purely from an ease of driving perspective....the automatic will also consume more fuel than the manual....if you won't be driving at all then the top of the line diesel version should be fine....for self driving i would take the petrol....

Really? I thought the Diesel offered a smoother drive and faster pick up. Normally I prefer petrols but this brand I prefer the Diesels.

You will most likely have to wait for the Diesel as its on a wait list and you will definatley get more money back when you come to sell the Diesel. Indian consumers prefer Diesels due to more mileage and cheaper price of Diesel.

Crikey! How long are these wait lists typically?

And any recommendations for a decent dealership. Either in gurgaon or Delhi.

Saad - where did you buy yours from and how was the experience.

Thanks!

Petrol you can get pretty much within a couple of weeks its the Diesel that has got the 3-4 months waiting list.

I can get it arranged for you within a few weeks if you want.

If you are looking at Petrol then also consider the Honda City. Nice car too.
