Ha! Story of every trip I've made to visit the parents, ever. I just give them an ultimatum: "Would you rather I come visit once a year for 3 weeks, or half a dozen times a year for 4 days at a time?"

I used visit her for 2-3 days every 6 months when I was in the US, making use of weekend breaks on my Europe trips and a very very very nice D mistake fare (ATH-CCU in LH D for 1839€ with no fat, long gone, so don't ask) so that impression has stuck. The past two years I've taken the Mrs and Kids for 1-2 weeks, but now its a yearly trip...

The crazy domestic J fares move to their own home: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/india...c-j-fares.html

Oliver and his maternal feelings stay here. :p ;)

Yes, you should have. Or flown Continental instead. Or just stayed at home.

But you chose to fly Air India. So that mean's you're not just doomed, you're decidedly masochistic :D

As for hoping there's WiFi on board, best put your energy into praying that the flight will leave and arrive within 8 hours of schedule and that the seat will work and the toilets will be usable and that the TV screen will come on. You know, small mercies!

So this malarchy about carrying the credit card used for reservation. What is that about?

I booked using a card that expired in Sep. I bought tickets in August now I have a new card from the same company. How does that work then?

Are they going to demand to see the same card? Even though, I am traveling alone on a booking made using my card?

I didn't know where else to put this:

Is that like when you call your neighbourhood ration shop and tell the (Naresh) Lalaji "Ek kilo kanda-batata pathwaa" and then you pay once it's delivered?

If so, then it's rather apt.

Go it !

So, more like call the lala shop and go "Nareshbhau, ek kilo kanda-batata side laa theva" - and then pick up the produce upon payment ;)

Managed to have a 1 hour phone conversation yesterday and she didn't bring up the topic even once. This morning I asked my wife to read between the lines what this means and her response was: 'that means she is OK with you coming for 4 days, just book it'. Which I did just now. Thought I would never see the day that NACIL AIR INDIA would appear on my CC statement, but what sacrifices we do for our parents...:p

I'm overnighting in BOM on Saturday on my way to Goa - anyone up for a drink or five?
