The gasoline has to meet government standards, though.

I think that's the case in all MEDCs...

The reason a 8 rupee price hike is such big news here is because fuel prices are set by the government...

I assume we're talking /liter and not /gallon?

1.11$/liter (4.19$/gallon) here in Philadelphia.

Yes, we are.
Although in Canada, lots of us do use standard because of the volume of cross border business (especially when I'm not even 100 miles from the border!)

Comparing price/liter in USD to price/liter in CAD doesn't work either.

Argh - why do you always make such valid points. Be wrong once in a while too! :D

Assuming the 1.419$ was CAD, the USD equivalent would be 1.385$USD.

Well, I used to make ridiculously inaccurate points with shocking frequency. Glad to see that my efforts to change that are paying off somewhat.

Right. I have absolutely no clue whether lallyr's UK number was in CAD or USD. Care to clarify, lallyr?

A diplomat with a lawyer, a formidable combination. Good that your father lodged a complained. These goons should be held accountable.

Still (unsuccessfully) but fervently trying to bring the TSA discussion into another thread so as to not drive the other one OT.

Every morning that I decide to take the Acela rather than the Northeast Regional (Amtrak trains here in the US, for those who have no idea of what I am talking about), they seem to be doing their TSA-style screenings. Incidentally, while the TSA screeners always seem to be different, in a line of 100+ people, it always is me, a Pagg Sardar-Ji, and this Middle-Eastern fellow that seem to get pulled aside (exclusively) for the "random" checking. :p

Whenever I take Northeast Regional, I board at Westwood/Route 128. My family is usually the only passengers. Never seen a TSO there in my life.

TSA tends to be congregated exclusively in the big-ticket stations on the Northeast Corridor, where there's a greater chance for a threat (or so they feel - I personally disagree with this, but that's just me).

Boston South Station, New York Penn, Philadelphia 30th Street, Baltimore, and Washington Union are the big-ticket stations on the NE line.

No, they go where more people will see the theater and feel "safe."

Well, that's why Westwood-New Jersey is the perfect itinerary to avoid them.^

Hahaha... sadly this is all too true!

Metropark is starting to gain big-ticket status. I had a K9 unit board the train at MET with me the other day. Other stations in Jersey should be okay.

Noooo! Metropark is the station I go to...

I guess I could go to EWR airport station as well - although I heard the AirTrain shut down?

Well naturally... MET (by extension, Edison/Woodbridge/Oak Tree Road) is a congregation of all the people that they "randomly" pull aside for the checks. How silly of us to not realize that that's why they need a K9 unit there... :D

Not sure about EWR station - only ever been there twice, and that too once was during an extreme snow-storm where MET was shut because the platforms were too icy.

FWIW, I've been flying more US nowadays since PHL is rather convenient, so I get to avoid Newark/NYC a bit more yet keep building my *A balance. Which I don't mind at all. (other than the fact that the US Air lounge at PHL is terrible compared to the UA Club at EWR, IMO)
