Iberia has entered talks with the European planemaker Airbus to speed up the delivery of 16 new aircrafts. Initially, the order was to be delivered staggered through 2020.
Now, the Spanish air carrier wants to shorten times. Iberia execs expect to bring forward the delivery of each A330-2. By doing so, the launch of the sleek A350-9 –Airbus' most modern aircraft- would be rescheduled for the next four years.

Both jet types are part of an order placed by Iberia with Airbus for eight A330-2 and as many A350-9 last summer.

That order set the first delivery for December 2015. The first date can not be negotiated on, for Airbus is tied down by its own manufacturing processes. However, Iberia expects to hasten subsequent deliveries. The final goal would be, 02B understands, bringing the A350-9s into service before 2018. Precisely, Qatar Airways will debut the jet this week.

So definitely some new long haul routes in the making then. Hopefully we get something going east in the not too distant future.

I flew the new C Class yesterday on MAD-GIG.

I really liked the seat. I had a singe window seat. Very comfortabel (Rafael Nadal was one row behind me a seemed to enjoy the seat too). Service and crew was ok, but could be better. Food I did not like. But IB lounge in T4S MAD was quiet good.

Flying solo, taking 3 flights on the 330 - have choice between 8A / 8L in the mini cabin or aisle seats in the front cabin (no windows left). One flight is MIA-MAD which I will sleep on the whole flight (always do that on eastbound evening flights), the other two are day flights.
What would the experienced recommend as a seat choice?

Personally I would go for the mini cabin, but remember you are taking a risk of the bassinet being there. I personally really enjoy kids and a baby being a bit fussy doesn't bother me and I find it really rare that a baby cries through the entire flight. But it's a risk I'm taking (if there is an infant at all)

I also enjoy kids and have my own but on a night flight I mostly want to sleep as much as possible. When you say there is a risk of the bassinet being there, would that be in business in row 8 or two rows behind, in economy?

There is a bassinet in the mini cabin in row 8. Often there is no child but if there is one in J, it'll be there.

Thank you LupineChemist.

That is a risk I guess, especially on MIA-MAD which I would imagine is a family heavy route. On the other hand the aisle seats are exposed so I will keep it unless a window seat frees up in the main cabin. I understand there is also no wall separating the mini cabin from the economy cabin behind.

I am taking an A340-500 soon in J. Seatguru does not have a seatmap for it yet. Where can find one or does anyone have seat recommendations?

So I had the 'pleasure' of booking the new layout to EZE last night, and then turning up to find the old skool flying dormitory of semi-wedgie beds

How often to IB pull this nonsense of last minute aircraft switches? It's a shame because the soft product is great, but there's no way I'm ever flying 13 hours in those seats again if I need to work a full day on the other end

More A340-500

To expand the info in posting #247. The configuration on the A340-500, long haul transatlantic, is 1-2-1.

In the window seats, the odd rows are placed away from the aisle, in the even rows you are next to the aisle.

And: in the middle pairs, the odd numbered rows have seats that are separated by their storage areas and tray tables. In the even numbered rows the two passengers are right next to each other, and the storage spaces are next to the aisles.

If all this seems a bit confusing, no wonder. These aircraft left the Airbus factory as A340-600s. But after Iberia re-configured, they branded them A340-500s. On the standard online seating charts, an Iberia A340-500 is nowhere to be found and the seat maps are for the A340-600.

SeatGuru shows 2-2-2. So does SeatPlans.com. SeatExpert doesn’t deal with Iberia, and AirlineQuality takes you to FlatSeats, which tries to take you to Iberia’s own seat maps which, of course, are out of order.

Got that??

Which do you think are preferable for a couple?

I suppose it depends on how fond you actually are of each other.

In all seriousness, though the rows with the storage toward the aisle are generally referred to as the honeymoon seats for a reason.
