Could be that they are just returning to only 340-600 coding once the whole fleet is overhauled. There would be no point in maintaining the distinction.

That would make sense, but the seat map is showing the old 346 layout also.

My bos-mad flight today was supposed to have the new seats, but they seem to have switched to an older aircraft at the last minute. Has anyone had success getting some miles or something as compensation for the switch from lie-flat seats (a major reason for why I chose this route) to janky old seats?

Well, but what about the new 330? I dont know where IB would want to send them to if not to ORD, MIA and JFK, maybe PTY or HAV from time to time. LAX may be too far, but so are most of the latin-american destinations. Therefore I guess its not possible that they are only using 34x (346 or 343) to fly to the US...

So what are the chances LAX flight is going new business by Summer 2016?
Right now it's all 340-200 according to Iberia.com...

I'm booked in J JFK-MAD in November. Was originally on a 330 but not showing as a 340. I can only access my reservation on AA.com and it doesn't specify which 340 version I'm booked on. However, it lists my seats as 4E and 4G which don't seem to exist on either 340 version according to SeatGuru.

SeatGuru doesn't show the actual configuration. The Wiki here has it.

A340-200 mad-gig

Having read the wiki and the posts from this year in this thread as well as phoning Iberia I am not clear on the likelihood of getting the old non flat J seats.

Looking at flights for Rio next Feb the outbound is a 340-200 and return could be a 330 if I pick the right date.
Do we know how many 340-200 (not fully flat beds) are still on the go at present? My reading would suggest they will all be gone by end of 2016?

Basically trying to work out if its worth specifically booking a date which says it will have an A330 and avoiding a A340-200 day when there seems to be so much switching before the actual date.

New seat vs. Old seat

I flew LAX-MAD-LAX last May. The outbound was a 345 with new seats.. The return was supposed to be a 345 but was changed to 340-600 with old seats. For me, I am tall (6’ 3”), the old seat was more comfortable when sleeping. I found the new seat very confining. I have a LAX-MAD flight scheduled next year and as this is a night flight I am completely ambivalent with respect to old seat vs. new seat. I may prefer the old seat. I assume the old seat on a 340-200 and a 340-600 are the same. Unfortunately the new interior did nothing to improve the food which was garbage in both directions. Thank God for the good wine!

I flew MAD-JFK a couple days ago in the new seats.

I really don't understand the hate for Iberia J -- The service was efficient and friendly, the seat was confortable, and the food was good and typical Spanish.

The only thing that went wrong on the flight was that amenity kits were not handed out. I asked one of the attendants about that and they said there were out of stock. (Some few minutes later he came back to my seat with earplugs which he had found somewhere.) Since they were flying out of their hub at MAD, I don't see how the stocking mistake could have happened. (A bit of a bummer -- I am not ashamed to say I like collecting amenity kits like I am sure many others in this forum.)

Other than that, I very much enjoyed the flight.

I rather like the new seat. I find the seats in row 1 (A345) a little on the claustrophobic side as a result of the footstool being fully encased so it feels like you’re inserting your legs into a narrow plastic box crate. From row 2 aft, the footstool is not encased and accordingly the entire seat area feels more spacious

I got stuck on EC-KZI last night in Y. I haven't gotten an old configuration in a long time and I think a lot of people underestimate the difference it makes in Y. Business angle flat to full flat is nice but wow is the old Y seat uncomfortable.

Yes, there is a huge difference in Y. I actually find new Y comfortable enough. I can always get row 10, with extra legroom, and IB blocks the seat next to me, so I've had an empty seat next to me the last four times. It's best if you book 10D or 10H, so the seat next to you is a middle seat and an elite that can get it unblocked won't want it. Also, the seats in the window blocks have the hooks for the bassinets. For a day flight I would pay very little extra to book J.

I have a choice in January MAD-JFK of a A340-200 in 2X2X2X - 4 rows config or a A340-500.
Any preferences? Thank you!
