I'm sorry, I feel like a total dope, but I'm really having a hard time understanding what to expect for an upcoming flight this week.
I'm scheduled to fly JFK-MAD on a 345 (I know from reading this that this could change up to flight time).
The wiki at the top of the page shows a 346. How many rows are there in J on the 345?
is that the 4-row cabin?
Please forgive me - I'm usually quite literate!

The seat map is for the A345 (which is a refurbished A346). There is no aircraft model A340-500, this is just IB nomenclature for the new cabin on an A346.

So it is a 12 row cabin, four seats per row.

Booked MAD-ORD in business for a flight in 4/16. Seat selection map on iberia.com shows four rows in a 2-2-2? I chose 3H and 3D for me and the wife (looking for 'honeymoon' seats- odd numbered rows?)

Is this seat map correct? I thought all the cabins would be upgraded by 2016 and would be 1-2-1? First time in IB biz- what am I missing?

Thanks all.

There are still a couple of A342 with the old cabins which are as you describe.

However, the IB MAD-ORD flight for April 16 currently shows up as an A345, with the new cabin, if I do a dummy booking.

Thanks for the info. Any chance then this is Iberia supplying the wrong map? As I said, this is in the IB website seat selection. Or am I likely stuck with the old product?

Confirmed! I got one last Saturday JFK - MAD. When the flight attendant saw me pushing at the non-touch screen and trying to get past 3 episodes of Friends (the only offerings in TV sitcoms extranjeros) she explained "this aircraft is very old and the system is tired..." It certainly is!

To tell the truth, this aircraft in Business is only a little better than the old Continental 757 I used to fly each month MAD - EWR - MAD. Of course it is double aisle and the seats are in a pod, yes, but your seatmate at the window still has to climb (that is, trip) over you to get out to the aisle and the "entertainment" system is de pena Food is ok, and the wines are great, as everyone knows. But that has nothing to do with the aircraft.

The sooner they complete the switchover, the better!

I've consistently pointed people to this thread when somebody starts a new thread about "what kind of plane / seat will I get?". I've never had reason to go through it myself as all of my IB long haul flights have been decent.

Now I know why some worry... I just had an SCL-MAD on an A342 that on the outside had a paint job that I assumed was retro chic... nope - just an ancient plane. I spent half of the flight muttering "vaya verguenza Iberia..." The seat might have gone flat, but it probably would have been more comfortable to sleep on the floor.

Service was the usual bleh Iberia but for the first time I noticed that the wine / cava glasses IB uses are thimble-sized when compared to other airlines in J and F...

Just received an email this morning about my LAX-MAD flight in April 2016. The aircraft has been updated to an A330-200 Not sure when the actual swap-out date is though.

Called in to get my new seat assignment: 2L. Does anyone know if that seat is good? Looks like on the A330-200 there is no mini business cabin (rows 8-9). There are only 5 rows total in business.

Here's the seat map:

Well that explains the 19 seat layout. No 5J

Updating this in case someone else experiences the same issue. Original seat map shown on Iberia for biz MAD-ORD was an odd 2-2-2 with 4 rows. The scheduled changed and Iberia promoted me to choose my seats again. The seat map updated to the new layout.

I have booked JFK-MAD for November in J (start of a honeymoon) and when I called for seat assignments the agent told me the middles in every row are D&H, no E&G, which sounds like the old configuration.

Is there any chance that by November 2016 they'd be flying non-retro'd A340s? Checking flightradar, the last 10 flights have been either retrofitted A340s or a new A330.

I assume if I want the sweetheart seats I should take an odd numbered D&H for now?

Edit: I see motownman's post above which makes me feel a bit better, although I can't pick seats via iberia.com, it says I have to call.

I flew MAD-JFK on the old A340-300 only last Sunday (it was an A330 when I booked it, fortunately it changed only the inbound, which was J, while the economy outbound flight was in the new cabin).

What you describe does sound like the old cabin, but that probably doesn't mean anything this far out, especially considering that not a single A340-600 should be left by then.

Have an upcoming flight MAD-LAX on the A330-200. J is wide open, have been assigned 5 E&G, but worry about noise behind. Any seating advice?
