Closure of Mendoza Airport

Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral inform that the International Airport of the City of Mendoza - El Plumerillo (MDZ) "Governor Francisco Gabrielli", will be closed from September 7 to December 7 inclusive, 2016 due to runway maintenance works.

Due to this situation and as an alternative, Aerolineas Argentinas will offer to make the trip to/from the nearest airports: San Juan (UAQ), San Luis (LUQ) and San Rafael (AFA).

Passengers will be able to have free access to a complementary shuttle service connecting the three airports with the Mendoza Bus Station.

Date change

a) Passengers who wish to bring their trip forward, will have 1 (one) free change, only once, from August 7, 2016 to September 6, 2016.

b) Passengers who wish to postpone their trip, will have 1 (one) free change, only once, to travel from December 8 to December 22, 2016 (complete trip) as maximum term.

For both cases, it should be kept the same cabin, as originally issued.

If the passenger wishes to travel on dates other than the established schedule (one-way and/or return), he/she may do so only by paying the fare difference, if applicable, and respecting the air ticket validity.

Route change

1 (one) free route change, only once to alternative airports in San Juan, San Luis and San Rafael will be allowed. Otherwise must be paid only the fare difference if applicable.

Returns

The return of the ticket with no deduction or penalty is authorized.

The suggestion that the sponsored trip should be disclosed is now moot since Lucky updated his post with that info. Thank you.

Not everybody that reads this will follow the link to your blog post, and in all fairness you did note that very prominently in your blog posts.

Thanks,

question: why if it was sponsored by hyatt is relevant to this thread?

It's reasonable to know when someone's opinion might have been positively influenced by a commercial relationship, no? FT isn't the New York Times, but there's an expectation that whatever influences a person's report here - positive or negative - will be mentioned.

Day 3 at the hotel and no diamond amenity. Yesterday I spoke briefly with the manager on duty and casually asked what the diamond amenity is. He responded that diamonds get fruit and water in the morning and turn down service in the evening as an amenity.

We got four pieces of chocolates at turn down the first night. Last night we received one wine glass with six marinated cherries in syrup. The latter came with one spoon. I mention this because there are clearly two people in the room. Is the amenity only for the diamond member and not for the spouse?

So far, I'm not at all impressed with this hotel. The service is poor and the hotel provides no follow-up to its promise to fix problems.

This exactly reflects the experience with this property we've had 3 month ago. The Diamond amenity was two apples and....nothing - we also received the cherries one night. When pointing out that we are actually two people in the room the rather unprofessional response was that they only offer one set per room...

The highlight 3 month now after the stay was an email from their finance department asking me to sign a credit card form so that they can charge an additional 1000 Pesos which they claim was supposed to be charged at check-out. Of course no justification of that claim was offered and I raised this with the GP Diamond Desk.

In summary one of the most unprofessionally managed Hyatt properties I've encountered so far and I would seriously consider if this is the right place to stay if in Mendoza again.

Follow-up to my earlier post.

I've just had another conversation with the manager on duty (the same one as yesterday). Yesterday I had some issues with the hotel, which I discussed with the manager. The manager made promises to rectify the situation, but did not follow through.

Upon returning to the hotel tonight, the manager approached me because I had left word earlier that I would like to speak to him again. I stressed that the customer is NOT always right, but that hotel managers need to be credible and follow through with their promises.

The manager offered a special amenity. I said I would like a bottle of wine. He implied that wine is no longer a standard amenity. Room service has just delivered a bottle of wine with a screw top. I should be happy that the wine did not come in a box.

Tonight it is four pieces of chocolates again, except I got two trays of four. Let's see what I get tomorrow. Perhaps the extra chocolates are substitutes for the two bottles of water that I did not receive tonight.

When management is nonchalant, the attitude carries over to the staff. Fortunately, the breakfast staff seem to have the right attitude and have been very pleasant. I can't say the same about the front desk staff.

Just did a 1 night stay here on points. The exterior of the hotel is lovely and relaxed by Mendoza standards. I like the layout of the room/bathroom. The casino seemed a bit like a 2 star casino on Vegas standards. The location was fine, as Mendoza is a very easily walkable city. The interior of the hotel was just okay for a Park Hyatt. My main complaints were twofold. First, the bellboys were not there to help me with my bags when my taxi arrived at the hotel...i had the same experience during checkout. Also, and more importantly, the sink in my room did not drain properly as the stopper was sealed. I had to keep it propped open with an old toothpaste bottle just so it would drain. I found Mendoza as a fairly boring city to tell the truth. The food was only okay at places at restaurants i ate. The shopping was pretty good though for what i was looking for. I didn't have time to tour the wineries. Overall a decent stay at the hotel if i overlook the two incidents.

Wrapping up my award stay here in Mendoza later today, and we've had an amazing time tasting Argentenian wines.

Overall, my impression of the PH Mendoza is very much in line with many of the reviews I've read on the property. Its a bit hit and miss, there are some positives, and some things that could be improved upon.

The hotel location is A+. Right across the main plaza in the city, near major shopping and restaurant filled streets... probably the best hotel location in town. We spent plenty of time at night walking around and felt very safe doing so with so many other people out on the streets. As for the hotel itself, it could use a refresh. Its not horrible per se, but its looking dated.

Check-in was quick, although for the first time as a Diamond member, did not get any room upgrade. I got what I booked, and thats fine (I never expect something better than what I book), but just wanted to note this since the property clearly was not full. I did get offered free breakfast and internet, was not offered 4pm check out but asked for it and got it no problem.

Breakfast at the restaurant was decent. (It' no PH Buenos Aires though). Nice selection of fruits, pastries, juices, eggs and meats/cheeses. We enjoyed the breakfast overall and service was good.

The room itself was clean and well laid out, we were on the top floor (7th) with a decent view, nothing breathtaking. Room is in good shape with a comfortable bed and a nice sized shower + tub. More closet space would have been a plus but not critical. In our room, we recieved fruits, pastries (some chocolate cakey thing that was pretty good) and extra waters, so Diamond recognition, overall, was good, whereas it sounds like some other folks havent had as positive of an experience.

The casino is dingy. We walked through it a few times to go out the back entrance, and its just smoke filled and yucky. Im sure it makes money for the hotel, but it didnt get any of my $. I disagree with some of the reviews I've read that the hotel "caters" to the casino... IMO the casino is tucked away into a corner nicely and if one doesnt know about it, you'd never run across it.

Fitness center on the 2nd floor was large and had a good variety of equipment, one of the better ones I've seen in Hyatt's actually.

Overall, my opinion is that its a good option. Not the best Park Hyatt in the chain, but for a stay in Mendoza, it probably out does the competition. As a Category2, its a total steal on points IMO, and I wouldnt be shocked to see it bumped up a level in the future.

I am at this hotel now so will just post a brief review now and add to it once I return home. I had fond memories of this hotel back in 2009 and will now look elsewhere if I'm back in this area. Management here is just awful.

Good:

Great location and low cost (using points). Breakfast is quite good and the front desk mentioned breakfast was included for both rooms I booked using points (diamond).

Bad:

I have only found one person here who is remotely helpful. On check-in I was told that both of my rooms were, wait for it, Park King rooms. That's the basic room, and the hotel is next to empty right now (checked the website and all types of rooms are currently available). I asked about a corner room and was told those are upgrades. I was somewhat stunned at that reply but said I'd like at least one if available. The desk agent had to call a manager for approval (granted). This is in contrast to my last stay here when I received a large corner room without asking. My other room (and both rooms prior to my asking about an upgrade) looks at a wall even though rooms with views are available. Now for the diamond amenity - two apples (as noted in a previous post). Seriously? I can go to the Hyatt Dearborn and get a bottle of wine as the amenity, but a hotel in the middle of one of the world's greatest wine regions cannot provide that?

This hotel did not blow me away last time (just got a corner room and a bottle of wine), but I still enjoyed it very much because the attitudes were better. Now no one cares. I'm surprised this property is still a PH.

Oh well, Mendoza is still a blast (though I will likely try the Sheraton or a locally owned property next time) and I have a four-night stay at the PH BA coming up.

Sorry to read this. And I'm not doubting you.

Main reason for posting: I will be stunned if you don't find the sharpest contrast in memory at the PH Bs As!

I guess one of the drawbacks of a frequency program is that if you don’t get an upgrade because the hotel “is next to empty” and only a couple of apples as a diamond amenity… it can throw ones opinion of the hotel down the drain…. even if breakfast is free and good.

Anyway, my wife and I spent one night here 2 weeks ago and we were not overwhelmed either. I used one of my soon to expire Diamond suite upgrades prior to my demotion at the end of February. Our suite was ready on check-in. Front desk person was pleasant, no issues. The suite was very large which will satisfy many, but unfortunately we did not like it much as the living room had the feel of a large medical office waiting room (albeit a nice one) rather than a comfortable residential space. I could hear the echo of my thoughts in the room. OK view, but as a previous poster mentioned, nothing special. Our Suite actually came with a large plate of various fruits and a bottle of water. I used one of my platinum extra’s awards for what I thought would be a bottle of wine, but apparently that was not on offer. Due to the mix-up we got free breakfast instead… then a couple of hours later they sent up a bottle of wine anyway even thought I did not complain or ask for it.

Large bathroom with excellent Japanese style wet room (bath and shower area). Great water pressure. Bedroom warmer in design than living room, but still not a fan of the wavy TV on the wall thing. Very comfortable bed. Room was pretty well maintained and clean. Did not use, but pool area looked nice. Bought a great bottle of Malbec from the in house wine store/tasting room.

Due to long bus ride over the Andes and tedious slow border formalities (Going to the old East Germany was easy compared to this) we did not feel like going out for diner, so ordered a steak from room service which was quite good and prepared as requested. Breakfast in the morning was indeed not bad (although we hit it at rush hour and it was packed). Nice banana bread. Used the house car service to go to the airport. Pleasant driver and nice service.

Overall I probably would have been happier if I had just used points for a 1 night stay in a regular room as the suite just did not agree with me. I was in Mendoza about 5 years ago and it seemed pretty run down back then. More life now, and it has been getting a lot of press recently… but still not a place I long to return to.

Slightly OT: will be visiting PH Mendoza for 4 nights and was wondering since so many have visited and hopefully did not just stay in the hotel, were there any particularly outstanding vineyards/wineries that are a must visit while in the region? We are thinking of getting a rental car for ease of access, I'm assuming the property has parking nearby?

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions!

At the PH Mendoza now.

To echo what others have said, this is no PH Buenos Aires (which we loved).

They appear to have improved their Diamond Amenity. We received a very nice bottle of Recuerdo Gran Corte (retails for $55 USD at the Vines of Mendoza shop down the road). They've also provided a sweet item each night of our stay -- macaroons, dulce de leche, etc. The breakfast in Bistro M is lackluster. Very little variety and the service is weak.

We were upgraded to a corner 'suite' with a nice view of the Andes.

In terms of vineyards; we'd highly recommend Pluenta in Lujan. The tour is fantastic and the cab franc is first-rate. Price/quality ratio is great. We liked Tempus Alba in Maipu. I'd highly recommend getting a driver. We paid $130 for a day with 5 vineyards -- very reasonable given that rentals will run you $80 plus gas and the need for a DD. We used Marcelo Villegas - [email protected]. Tell him Brett and Mary sent you!

Enjoy your trip to Mendoza.
