Wrapping up my award stay here in Mendoza later today, and we've had an amazing time tasting Argentenian wines.

Overall, my impression of the PH Mendoza is very much in line with many of the reviews I've read on the property. Its a bit hit and miss, there are some positives, and some things that could be improved upon.

The hotel location is A+. Right across the main plaza in the city, near major shopping and restaurant filled streets... probably the best hotel location in town. We spent plenty of time at night walking around and felt very safe doing so with so many other people out on the streets. As for the hotel itself, it could use a refresh. Its not horrible per se, but its looking dated.

Check-in was quick, although for the first time as a Diamond member, did not get any room upgrade. I got what I booked, and thats fine (I never expect something better than what I book), but just wanted to note this since the property clearly was not full. I did get offered free breakfast and internet, was not offered 4pm check out but asked for it and got it no problem.

Breakfast at the restaurant was decent. (It' no PH Buenos Aires though). Nice selection of fruits, pastries, juices, eggs and meats/cheeses. We enjoyed the breakfast overall and service was good.

The room itself was clean and well laid out, we were on the top floor (7th) with a decent view, nothing breathtaking. Room is in good shape with a comfortable bed and a nice sized shower + tub. More closet space would have been a plus but not critical. In our room, we recieved fruits, pastries (some chocolate cakey thing that was pretty good) and extra waters, so Diamond recognition, overall, was good, whereas it sounds like some other folks havent had as positive of an experience.

The casino is dingy. We walked through it a few times to go out the back entrance, and its just smoke filled and yucky. Im sure it makes money for the hotel, but it didnt get any of my $. I disagree with some of the reviews I've read that the hotel "caters" to the casino... IMO the casino is tucked away into a corner nicely and if one doesnt know about it, you'd never run across it.

Fitness center on the 2nd floor was large and had a good variety of equipment, one of the better ones I've seen in Hyatt's actually.

Overall, my opinion is that its a good option. Not the best Park Hyatt in the chain, but for a stay in Mendoza, it probably out does the competition. As a Category2, its a total steal on points IMO, and I wouldnt be shocked to see it bumped up a level in the future.
