Closure of Mendoza Airport

Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral inform that the International Airport of the City of Mendoza - El Plumerillo (MDZ) "Governor Francisco Gabrielli", will be closed from September 7 to December 7 inclusive, 2016 due to runway maintenance works.

Due to this situation and as an alternative, Aerolineas Argentinas will offer to make the trip to/from the nearest airports: San Juan (UAQ), San Luis (LUQ) and San Rafael (AFA).

Passengers will be able to have free access to a complementary shuttle service connecting the three airports with the Mendoza Bus Station.

Date change

a) Passengers who wish to bring their trip forward, will have 1 (one) free change, only once, from August 7, 2016 to September 6, 2016.

b) Passengers who wish to postpone their trip, will have 1 (one) free change, only once, to travel from December 8 to December 22, 2016 (complete trip) as maximum term.

For both cases, it should be kept the same cabin, as originally issued.

If the passenger wishes to travel on dates other than the established schedule (one-way and/or return), he/she may do so only by paying the fare difference, if applicable, and respecting the air ticket validity.

Route change

1 (one) free route change, only once to alternative airports in San Juan, San Luis and San Rafael will be allowed. Otherwise must be paid only the fare difference if applicable.

Returns

The return of the ticket with no deduction or penalty is authorized.

I stayed at PH Mendoza end of August, and I must say that I was disappointed. It's worth his status as category 2.

In-room service was hit and miss: no shampoo and shower gel on the first day, difficulties to get bottles of water (I only got some when I was in the room to answer the maid, not the other days), and so on. At the bar, we were a table of 10, and had to wait for a very long time to get anything (even to place our orders...). The room are nice, but service is subpar. I think they are focussing too much on the casino part. For example, there are only two elevators, one of which is blocked in the evening to access the parking lot for players at the casino. Which leaves exactly one elevator for the whole hotel.

Breakfast was nice, though.

I preferred PH in Mendoza, and Grand Hyatt Santiago, during my trip in South America.

Question Getting there...

How do most people get to this hotel? In the comments above, it appears that the long haul flight is usually to SCL, then either a flight or drive over the hill. No? And if people come out of Buenos Aires, it's necessary to change airports in BA. If so, what's involved getting from EZE to the other BA one? Any comparison of the costs of flying from BA vs. Santiago?

I've been trying to see about using FFNs at the Duhau (since there's no room at the inn in Paris and...) now that free air travel availability to EZE is freeing up. But the Duhau's dates and the open air travel dates aren't entirely coinciding. So, I thought I might try to stay at each hotel.

Thank you.

Apart from the possibility of flights from SCL, there are no direct international flights to Mendoza. There are however lots of flights from BA.

If you REALLY want to visit the PH Mendoza you can include it as part of a visit to the Hyatts in BA and Santiago. There are several buses that make the (sometimes spectacular) trip across the Andes from Mendoza.

Personally, unless you are a wine buff with an interest in the local wines, or determined to visit all know Hyatts, then I do not think that the PH Mendoza is worth the trouble.

The PH is a CASINO first and last, and if you are expecting the type of treatment that you would get in Milan, Paris, Zurich or BA, then you will be seriously disappointed.

I completely agree with bondiboy. We had an adequate stay at the hotel, but were disappointed overall. I think that hotel management is far more concerned about those who use the casino than those of us just looking for a good hotel stay.

We ate some excellent meals in town and at vineyards; I reported on that in the Argentina forum (perhaps in the Mendoza thread). The best part was taking the bus across the Andes to Santiago - spectacular scenery seen from a comfortable bus (seats comparable to international business class seats). We had much better stays at the Santiago Hyatt and the Buenos Aires Hyatt.

Exclamation Scooore

Thank you all. The stars aligned, and I struck: The Duhau for a week of FFNs. Thanks to your counsel and others', zero regrets. (Well, there are about the "V", but that's another thread, as you've seen.)

Wonderful stay!

I must say, I'm VERY surprised to read the negative reviews regarding this hotel. Yes, it's not the PH Vendome, but it's a very charming and relaxing hotel in it's own right. It is also priced accordingly (I booked the government rate - and used discounted Costco gift checks. My daily rate came to around $120 a night.)

Mendoza itself is a very rural town. Depending on what you expect from a trip to South America, you may like or hate the area surrounding the hotel. Regardless, the hotel itself is an oasis, located in the center of town. My Diamond Suite upgrade resulted in a Governor's Suite (requested as a honeymoon couple.) The suite was beautiful, classy and roomy. Very typical PH. The bathroom was large and filled with wonderful amenities. Since Mendoza is in wine country, their bath products are packaged with various wine grape characteristics (white wine/red wine for shampoo & conditioner.)

The service is impeccable. They will stop at nothing to do whatever it is you request. For example, the extra bathroom in our suite did not have an outlet to accommodate a hair dryer. Only the master bathroom had such an outlet. Since my traveling partner had the need to dry her hair very early in the morning for an hour long period thereby interrupting my sleep, I asked the front desk if they could do anything to accommodate the hair dryer in the extra bathroom. They sent someone from maintenance who actually installed a completely new electrical outlet, and attached a new hair dryer to it. Now that's service!

Their breakfast buffet has good variety, and is free for Diamond members.

Overall, a wonderful stay for a competitive price.

Yes, I was there a couple of weeks ago using points (it's cheap that way too) -- I thought the whole experience was just great. I also don't understand all of the bad reviews. . . . and i loved Mendoza

Just checked in for a five nights stay and the Diamond amenity seems to be .... a bottle of water and two apples.
Any suggestion how to make them aware that they are far from Hyatt’s (not just Park) standards in an polite way - e.g. not sounding overly picky?

I've always gotten a nice bottle of wine and fruit and/or cheese, and when I requested white, they took the red back and brought me a very nice white.

that doesn't sound the amenity.. it includes a letter or postcard ? ..

you can mention the front desk mgr they forgot yo give you amenity and if they mention the water and 2 apples just say "oh.. ok. I normally get wine & cheese or something like that"

I stayed at the Park Hyatt Mendoza a couple of weeks ago as part of the Masters of Food & Wine event (which comped my stay), and had a fantastic stay. No, the hotel isn't the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires or Paris, though it's not priced as such either. At 8,000 points per night or around $200, this hotel is an absolute bargain.

For anyone interested, I wrote a full review of my stay, along with pictures, here.
