I was in the adjoining Central Embassy mall earlier this month and I suppose this isn't necessarily a surprise because (a) the architecture is somewhat non-standard/unique and (b) this is Thailand, but there were clearly construction related defects in the mall as there was quite a bit of water damage in some parts of the ceiling and there were tarps in place as well on the upper floor. Hopefully the hotel section of the complex will not be affected by similar construction issues.

Look at post 117 to see that March 2017 is the scheduled openng date.... little chance in my opinion it wil open early, a lot more it will be late (again).

There's conflicting info. On their facebook, who ever is in charge of it, has been sticking to quarter 4 of 2016. I know that's unlikely and the March 2017 date will probably be pushed.

If that's the case, they really should update their main website.

As long as a property isn't taking reservations, any date is pretty meaningless. And even then it will still be Thailand so expect nothing untill it actually has opened.

I do love the StR. I walked into the GH and it felt like a 3.5 star hotel.

I looked online at what else was on offer and it seems that BKK desperately needs luxe 5 star hotels.

Yes, walking into a hotel is the one of the most accurate ways to judge its quality, and looking online is even better. No need to bother with staying in them. I once flew over Australia and could see that it's a place to be avoided at all costs.
