Transfers and Costs

The shortest flight from Male Domestic terminal to Kooddoo Domestic Airport is ~55 minutes and the longest flight takes ~1 hour 45 minutes due to a ‘stop over’ in Kadhdhoo Domestic Airport.

A scenic and short speedboat journey of approximately 30-40 minutes (weather dependent) will follow as the final stretch of the journey to our island.
Any last minute name changes on domestic flight ticket are subject to a fee levied by the Maldivian Air. All such changes will be charged at the rate of USD 100 net per person. The exact flight timings are released two days before departure, but tend to be around these times:
  • Arrivals (Departure from MLE) : 10:30-11:00, 12:00, 13:40, 17:30hrs and last flight at 23:30
  • Departures (Departure from Kooddoo) : 0545hrs, 0800hrs, 1130hrs, 1530hrs and last departure at 1830hrs

Excess baggage will be charged and is subject to space availability and terms and conditions of the Air Carrier.

Map of the resort
Best Villas
Water villas: Generally the higher number the better. #51 is the most private
How to save money during stay
Have late breakfast (breakfast is free for all guests except if you are redeeming points), skip lunch, and only pay for dinner
The Saturday free cocktail social (manager's reception) is at 6:30pm
Bring family?
This resort is not orientated for children. No kids club, pool is not suitable for young kids, and you will need to pay the transfers for each child, and plenty of PDA.
That said, some families have loved their experience here. http://travelsort.com/blog/park-hyat...hadahaa-review. If you bring children the Hyatt does provide sitting service for $20/hour.

Also note that the resort charges $250 per child age 3 and up per night (even if the child does not require an extra bed). Only kids 2 and under are free. http://travelsort.com/blog/park-hyat...a-bed-fee-ever
Wifi
As at January 2022, the resort's wifi speed is 10-12Mbps.
Tipping
The management views employees as each part of a team, with no one more important to the hotel's success. No one wants to order room service if the groundskeeper or housekeeper has not created an inviting place to enjoy it for instance. So employees share equally the 10% service charge added into everything, including the room charge. Tipping beyond that is not necessary, but at your discretion. Unlike the service charge which is shared with all employees on the entire property, if you choose to add additional gratuity to the bill for a meal or an activity, that money is shared amongst employees of the department responsible for that meal or service (e.g. additional gratuity on a dive center bill will be shared amongst those employees, while additional gratuity on a Dining Room bill will be shared amongst the food service employees). Employees are also allowed to keep cash tips that they receive directly. Employees are rewarded with trips and other gifts when their outstanding service is brought to management's attention. A great way to reward a good employee is by letter to management.
See this post which provides more details http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22508516-post1525.html
Ipad App
There is an Ipad in each room that has an app with a lot of useful / interesting information. If you have an Ipad, you can search & download the app for: Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa. It doesn't work on an iPhone due to the page size. Some info may be out of date or missing, so check with the resort.

Great hotel for sure! I was there for 5 nights July 2017. Our next Maldives trip (Feb 2019) i'm going to hit the Conrad instead. At PH there's no way to get the over water villas without the few hundred $ per night up charge. At Conrad, they're standard rooms along with the beach villas even though the rate is rouhgly 50% more for water vs beach.

Globalist & Diamond is covered at both for us.

I would strongly recommend not arriving at 11pm. There are no flights to Kooddoo from Male that late, so you will spend the first night of your vacation in the capital city, then take a flight/boat to the resort the following morning.

How many resorts are there in the Maldives (or anywhere exotic, really) that you can redeem 25k points for a ~$1,000 nightly stay? It's an incredible deal, especially if you have the Hyatt credit card and stay there frequently for work. Before the slight devaluation of the Hyatt credit card, you could get 2 free nights just for signing up and spending $1k on the card. For us, that was huge value - rooms were $1,200 per night around the holidays when we visited, and we got 4 nights free just from picking up a credit card.

The value you get for those points is just fantastic! I am waiting for Chase to launch a premium card similar to Hilton Aspire that would give cardholders the top status at Hyatt.

Currently, the full board package is $1303 a night plus tax for the Park Water Villa in August for 4 nights. My other thought was to use points and pay to upgrade. I'm Globalist so we would've gotten the breakfast for free anyways. How much do you guys think it would be to upgrade from the points room to the Park Water Villa and add in a full board package?
However, if I do pay for the 4 nights, I would be using the Citi Prestige so I would get the 4th night free - not incl the tax cost.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Not exactly the best comparison. I didn't really realize this at first, but those "standard" beach and water villas at CM are not detached, so you'll be sharing a wall with someone unless you pay for or are comped an upgrade. We upgraded to a Superior Water Villa for a few hundred a night, got a comp upgrade to Deluxe Water Villa, and ended up with a room that was better than PH Water Villas in almost every way except the surrounding water (no reef).

If you're interested, I did a side-by-side of CM and PHM:

While that is expensive, it was definitely worth it for us. We also drink alcohol, so that amps the value up significantly as well. You still sign your bill at the end of each meal/bar visit so it's pretty easy to see that we were getting our ~$500/day worth. While I didn't specifically choose the most expensive items on the menu, it is nice to know when you "come out ahead" of where we would have been had we paid on a per meal/drinks basis. Food alone was pretty easy for us to hit a combined $500/day. Our highest was over $900 for a single day.

With that being said, our habits would have been very different if we were paying on a per meal/drink basis. A lot of people on a tight budget eat a very late (after 11AM) breakfast and then hold off until dinner, in effect skipping lunch (or snacking on food they brought during the middle of the day). The all-inclusive package comes with 2 courses for lunch and 3 for dinner. If I were not on the all-inclusive plan, I would probably have gotten by pretty easy on 1 course for lunch and 2 for dinner, saving at least $100+ per couple each day. The portion sizes were good and I was not disappointed.

IMHO, acohol is really what makes all the difference. We were going to paradise and I didn't want to sweat the cost of $12 mixed drinks ($24 doubles, which they will offer!). It gets expensive fast if you drink more than a couple per day. If you don't drink, then pay per meal. If you want to have a few drinks (or more) each per day, you will probably come out ahead on the all-inclusive plan.

Your question was about how much to budget. If you eat a late breakfast and skip lunch, you can get by on $150 pp/day. If you like to drink and/or don't want to worry about your menu selection, then $250 pp/day on the all-inclusive package is the way to go.

Also, just in case you were considering upgrading your room, I would spend any extra money on the food/drinks over the room upgrade. The water villas are awesome, and I can now say we did it, but the regular rooms are fantastic! I was sad to leave our first room, and that's where I would stay if we are fortunate enough to return in the future.

The meal plan rates are inclusive off all taxes and service charge. (I received this answer from the resort).

This is not in the wiki. What exactly does it mean? The standard 30% bonus points that any Globalist get at any hotel? Or something else? I am confused by the statement "when choosing points". If there is a choice here, what are other choices?

Justifying Premium AI

Heading to the PH in July with my wife for our 10 yr anniversary and trying to judge the merits of the Premium AI for a Globalist (i.e. free breakfast). There have been several posts recently stating it made total sense, but I just can not see how it works out. The table below is the costs I estimated per day, and to even get to this estimate took a lot of stretching (2 pool drinks per person, both eating dessert, and a bottle of wine a day)

Even with all that, I come out to ~399 which is still less than the Premium AI for 2 people ($420). Is the difference that as a Globalist we get free breakfast (though anyone paying gets free breakfast as well)? Am I missing something or making a gross misjudgment, or is it that our eating habits just don't line up with others (we tend to do either a lite lunch, or no lunch when on vacation)?

Conversely, the Drink AI for 195 for a couple seems like it could be an excellent deal as it doesn't seem hard to rack up that much in drinks in a day.

Secondary question - does anyone know if you buy a bottle of wine and don't finish it, will they save it for later meals?

I personally did not think AI made any sense for me and there were many days I spent considerably less than the AI cost. In my opinion it only makes senses if you are a heavy drinker and want all 3 course meals.

Also, the food portion sizes are very decent. I saw no need for apps

Park Hyatt Maldives as an Explorist - can I use club access for free breakfast?

See title above. I am using points for an extended stay for my honeymoon. Currently an Explorist. I know Globalist gets free breakfast, but does anyone have experience or knowledge in using the club access passes for this property in order to have breakfast included?

I think your way under on the food. Lobster is $110 a person. If you want to eat in the nicer resturant food adds up fast. Plus you get a beach private dinner.

I was just at this property the $210 PI does NOT inclued tax and service. Tax and services are added when you get your final bill
