my review

My quick review as I think Mohammed provided a great review so I'm going to as my two cents and provide a little more detail on the villas.

Overall great place for a adult trip. I would come back on free night awards but would have to fully review and compare food and diving prices of PH to other hotels to ensure the best value.

First let me start off by saying I think the food and excursions are over priced. $210-$270
For two boat dives is over priced unless you guarantee a whale shark or pygmy seahorses. I don't think the PH dinner plates are worth $45, more like $25-$35. I understand we are on a island and you have to bring all the food in which is true for meats but the fish is local. I ordered the red fish one night and the mussels which accompanied the plate were more moist than the dry chewy red fish. When the F&B manager asked how the food was I told him about the dry fish and he offered to replace but told him I would rather just have what my wife was eating so he brought out a half plate. However, when I recieved the bill they still charged me for the fish I sent back with one bite taken from it!

I would not recommend the Saturday BBQ as it tasted like a casino buffet and they ran out of lobster and shrimp.

I think Villa 1, 2, 6, 7, 31, 32, 36 and 37 are fully open to the beach and you see into the villa from the beach without any problems. 31 and 32 are next to the dawn jetty and people walking in from the jetty and see in the villas. The following villas are not fully open to the beach but you can still see into the villas from the beach; 11, 12, 14, 19, 20, 25, 26. You will notice some of these villas are pool villas (1,2, 6, 7, 36 and 37) and I would not pay the extra price for these villas but would rather stay in a more private non-pool villa. However, if you must have an ocean view then I would stay in the over water villas as you still get privacy with the ocean views..I think the best villas may be from villa# 20-26 because of great beach (see para below) and overhanging trees which allow you to sit in your lounge chairs but stay in the shade of the trees.

The moving beach- Some reviews may have mentioned the beach moves throughout the year where some villas have little to no beach to lay in your lounge chairs. We stayed in Feb and the north side of the island, villas 1-19, had little beach and you couldn’t walk in the water because of the exposed flat rock of the island, see attached pictures. When the sand moves because of currents and winds it exposes the hard rock of the island. Because of the lack of beach on this side of the villa anyone walking the beach is walking within meters of some of the pool villas (1,2,6,7). The south part of the island (villas# 20-37) had beach and none of the flat rock was exposed. I think I was told that Dec-May the north side of the island loses it beach and June-Nov the south side of the island loses it beach. It seems west part of the island, where the main pool and dining room is locate, maintains a great beach year around. Also while during our stay it seemed like the opposite side of the island, villa #’s 20-26 had a great beach as well. These two sides of the island may maintain full beaches year around as the wind and surf does not normally pound the island on the east and west side.

Private concierge (staying off the grid)- We had, and it seemed most other guest, a private concierge which was suppose to fulfill any request/requirements you may need. He seemed to pop up every time we popped up on the grid at breakfast, dinner or at the bar. I enjoyed seeing him the first couple of times but then dreaded seeing him after that and would look out for him when we would pop up on the grid. The conversation would quickly turn do you have any excursions plans. So the conversations became short and uncomfortable towards the end of our stay and I felt sorry for the kid b/c he seemed uncomfortable asking each time if we want to go on any excursions.

You can see my full review and the picks of the exposed rock in the link below.
