This version of the Hyatt card (with its 2 free nights offer) has been discontinued as of June 29, 2017.

There is a new version.

See this thread

__________________________________________________ ___________________________

What are the benefits of the card?
  • 3 points/dollar spent at Hyatt
  • 2 points per dollar spent at restaurants, airfare, car rental
  • 1 point for all other charges
  • No foreign exchange fee
  • Annually, on renewal, one free night at up to a category 4 hotel and is valid for 12 months
When will I receive the sign up bonus?
Typically a day or two after the close of the billing cycle in which you reach spend threshold.
When do the signup points from this card offer expire?
If you have no activity on your Hyatt account for 24 months your points will expire.
Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?
See the wiki and related discussion in Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward.
It's a Chase Card. Does that mean that if I have more than 5 new open lines of credit in 24 months, I will be automatically denied?
This card is not currently under the 5 cards in 24 months Chase application restriction.
It looks like the Hyatt website will let me use my anniversary category 1-4 cert for any property, including those above category 4. Is this for real?
No. Even if the system accepts your attempted reservation, the property will not honor the cert at check-in. Accept the fact that your cat 4 cert is just that.
Can I use my anniversary category 1-4 cert at a higher-category property with a cash co-pay? By paying the difference in points? By asking nicely?
No. No. No.
Can I use my annual free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused points or annual free-night certificate?
No. Unused points already in your Hyatt account as well as the annual free-night award remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Questions related to the (now expired) 2 Free Night card offer:

When do the signup bonus free-night awards for this card expire?
The awards expire one year from the date of deposit (typically the date on which the required spend is met, which may fall in the middle of a billing cycle). All stays must be completed by the expiration date.
When I view my free-night awards, why is the button to start the redemption/booking process missing?
You no longer need to go through the My Awards page to book a free-night cert. Simply start the booking process as if requesting an award stay using points.
When I try to book a multiple-night award stay, why does the Hyatt website show availability for points redemptions but not for Free Night Awards?
You will need to redeem the free-night certs one at a time in separate single-night reservations if you want to do it online. For example, if you want to book the Park Hyatt Sydney for December 14-16, you will book the night of the 14th to 15th as one stay, and then repeat the process for the night of the 15th to 16th. Otherwise, call Hyatt to make the booking.
If I can't use my free-night award by the expiration date, can I exchange it for points or get the expiration extended?
According to the FT Hyatt GP Concierge, as of January 22, 2016, there are 2 options for compensation for the initial (all-category) Free Night Awards:
  • Platinum guests: Hyatt offers 10,000 points per Award if the Member has had 5 eligible stays or 15 eligible nights in the previous 12 months. The 10,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
  • Diamond guests: Hyatt offers 20,000 points per Award if the Member has achieved Diamond status by achieving 25 stays or 50 nights or completing a trial tier offer within the last 12 months. The 20,000 points per award exchange can only be done after the award night has expired. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which required the award to be unexpired.) Members have up to 90 days beyond the expiration of the unused award night to exchange for points.
These policies will reportedly remain in effect after the March 1, 2017 transition from Hyatt Gold Passport to the new World of Hyatt program.

Anniversary Awards valid in Category 1-4 hotels are not eligible for extension. (This is the opposite of the old rule, which allowed a one-time 30-day extension.)
Can I use the sign-up free night cert for a suite or Club-level room, possibly with a cash or point copay?
Officially, no. But there's no harm in contacting an individual property directly to see what they're willing to do.
If I close my card account, do I lose any unused free-night certificates?
No. Unused free-night awards remain available in your Hyatt account regardless of the status of your Chase card.

Thanks.

P.S. You have one year to use the certificate--is that one year from date of purchase or date from Hyatt getting the notification ( I assume its this). If I am correct how long does it take Chase to get Hyatt this information.

The T & Cs state:
"Free Night Awards are valid for use on any available standard room within one year from issuance at any Hyatt hotel or resort worldwide. Awards are not transferable. After qualifying, please allow 10 days for your Free Night Awards to post to your Hyatt Gold Passport account. For complete terms and conditions, see goldpassport.com"

Here's my experience related to some recently asked questions:

Free nights:
apply 10/19/10, first spend 11/3/10, nights posted to hyatt account 11/10/10. valid until 11/30/2011

Chase apps:
Two seperate occasions (both my wife and I) multiple apps inside of 6 months approved for both. Chase has shifted credit lines in some cases.

Annual Fee:
removed if card closed within 30 days of posting.

Do you keep the free nights if you close the card within 30 days (getting your annual fee back) ?

also, i understand the last question about keeping the free nights if you cancel within 30 days to save the Annual fee--I assume (but don't know for sure) that the answer is no.

Assuming I am correct, is there a length of time the card needs to kept open to ensure that you will not have these free night certs taken back

To clarify, I've canceled (other Chase cards -- BA, WN) in the second year after the annual fee posts to receive the second annual fee back.

I have no direct experience but I've heard of instances where Chase has clawed back miles/points when the account is closed within 6 months of opening. Not sure how that would work with a free night, particularly if you already spent it but I personally wouldn't go that route.

Annual fee?

I was recently approved for the card but have yet to activate it. Chase has already charged me my $75 annual fee?

Shouldn't I be charged if and when I actually ACTIVATE the card?

BTW, I'm waiting another 50 days to activate and use the card in order to extend my free night expiration until April 2012.

makes perfect sense. you agreed to the fee when you applied and got approved.

when you "use" your card for the first time, that is when your nights will be deposited...

so begs the question, why apply so early?

Good question. I guess I was worried the offer would not be available in a few months...

if anything, i would think the offer might get better (one of those, limited time sign-up offers) (i guess it goes both ways)

Inability to use free nights?

Apologies if this issue has been addressed. I applied for and got the card, used it, and my two free nights were posted to my account. I tried to use the nights on an upcoming trip to Japan, but of course the message "award not available on the nights/location you requested" keeps showing up. I thought "how peculiar" because the promo says any hotel, anywhere, no blackouts, etc. Somehow I knew there would be a catch. So, I plugged in multiple locations, multiple dates and can't find any availability anywhere, anytime. Has anyone else experienced such difficulty redeeming the free nights? Any tips?

Regarding the cert that you can use for a year---is it exactly a year from the date of your purchase or is it a year from when the cert goes into your account which I assume could take a few days or longer. If it's not the purchase date, how far is the date that the cert is actually applied from the actual 1st purchase date?

The reason for the question is I too am planning an April, 2012 vacation and (just applied for the card today) want to make sure that I don't make the purchase more than a year out and risk the offer not being valid yet want to make the purchase as early as possible since for our trip we are going during a prime season (spring break) and to a very popular Hyatt.

Thanks so much.

Spring break ends the last week of March for the most part, also if you are using it for an upscale hotel ($400/night) that's not the spot spring breakers would gather at anyway.

I plan on using mine the last week of March 2012 in Clearwater beach but I am going to book the dates in May plus I doubt many spring breakers book or are even allowed to stay here

Not sure why, but the credit card free nights don't seem to be bookable online as you'll always get a message that there is no availability. You'll have to call GP to make the reservation-- I haven't heard of anyone having availability issues when calling (provided the hotel has standard rooms available, of course).

Will they show up if you try to view/book them as single nights? I recall on the last FFN promo you could see the award nights individually but when you tried to book a block over a few days they wouldn't show up.

Has there been any confirmation that the one-year clock starts ticking when the free nights are deposited, rather than when the card is issued?

The T&C seem ambiguous:

You will qualify for and receive two Hyatt Gold Passport® Free Night Awards after your first use of the card. First use includes purchases, balance transfers, or any checks that are used to access your account, and excludes cash advances. Free Night Awards are valid for use on any available standard room within one year from issuance at any Hyatt hotel or resort worldwide.
It's not clear to me whether "issuance" refers to issuance of the free nights or issuance of the card.
