Yes, get those enquiring e-mails going !
...if anybody knows of a higher up at IHG HQ,
please post contact info here.
Considering that email says that response is needed by May 27 or they "adjust" the rate we need to sort it out faster. The last thing I want is being charged 171++ for rooms I do not really need.

I have a feeling that even if they change the rate to $171, you won't have any problem, either

1) Canceling the reservation.
2) Dispute the charge with your credit card.

I do want to use the nights I booked, so I'm going to hang on to this reservation until the end.

Same here. Don't care about the hotel all that much - would rather get a $ off coupon.

Oh come ON, jeh jeh jeh, it's an ancient joke, and you know it !!

....actually, I believe it is written that we cannot move on to stage 5 (?)
until stage 4 (?), i.e someone saying they are going to sue,
has been accomplished.

I am not sure I understand your point, but one idea I have is to write to hotel to ask to add my PCR number to the reservation. Then I maybe be able to view it on PC site and maybe escalate it to IHG/PC using my Plat status. But it also depends who is going to cover real costs - booking.com or hotel itself. What do you think?

For those with refundable reservations is there not the option of holding out in the hope of a more 'civilised' resolution. Surely the prospect of a completely empty hotel in Jan-Mar is worse than a full hotel with guests paying probably only slightly less then neighbouring hotels would accept anyway?

I too enjoyed the Phuket 1 baht deal.

The most amazing thing was the registered letter from the manager
arriving maybe a month after booking, saying "Congratulations" !

Why is this different ?
I guess because every such "promo" is different.

No matter how much experience anyone has,
no one can predict the outcome for sure.
We've had pretty good luck with IHG, but it has taken weeks to clarify.

Well, I guess we all knew that this was coming. I think they have transferred everything to singapore as singapore is the hardest place to sue somebody. I simply replied to the email stating that they confirmed my booking and I expect it to be honored and if they charged my credit card for anymore than agreed upon I would report it as fraud. I also stated I am a platinum royal ambassador and would tell ICH that if this rate was not honored and they continued business with bookings.com, I would simply never stay in a holiday inn ever again (dont think i would be able to give up intercontinental though, royal ambassador too good to let go)

171 is also a high rate for this hotel. It should be in the $100 range

You are completely missing my point .

USD10 hotel (of 'reasonable' standing) is not common even in the cheaper parts of SE Asia, let alone at destinations which command 'first world rates' like Singapore or Bali.

Just because you have stayed in 2 hotels which honoured their mistake rates do not made them commonly available rates across SE Asia.

Room rates in Bali has gone up significantly over the past couple of years, thanks to the surge in Russian tourists & cheap flights (plus strong currency) from Australia
