I'll echo this - having just been there this week, they're both really convenient to the airport. The Hilton is a bit further away (and through a construction maze), but it has a shuttle that departs every 20 minutes or so from the airport (near the train station).

The walk to either, though, is less than 10 minutes.

Has anyone ever stayed in the John & Yoko Suite there, which was the scene of their "Bed-in for Peace"? Hilton's website refers to the room as "arguably the most famous hotel room in the world."

Both hotels are conveniently located from the Airport.
But Personally, I prefer the Sheraton.

I stayed at the Hilton last month and they were very helpful. Upgraded to Executive Floor, but the lounge was being renovated so I got coupons for the bar and breakfast buffet instead. Decent property with excellent friendly staff.

The lounge renovations are done, as it was open when I was there (upgraded to Exec Floor as a Gold on an award stay).

It's a very nice hotel, IMHO.

I was also in that hotel last weekend on the same special rate.(Check-in 2/14, check-out 2/17)

I booked on the website, and it mentioned it's 190 Euro/night with 3 for 2. So I think it sounds right that 380 + (3 * 50) ~= 530. But seem they didn't communicate that as clearly over the phone.

For what it's worth, I was upgraded to executive room in 8th Floor. And I am only HHonor Gold. I am really supprised that you are not on higher floor as a diamond. One possibility is your roll-away bed request. My room was nice, with a good size bath room. But sleeping area is kinda cramped. I can see an extra bed fit in there with some re-arrangement of furniture, but there wouldn't be much space for anything else. Do you have enough space in the 3rd floor room?

The food in the lounge is not bad. I skipped dinner the second night with the reception foods. The third day, I skipped lunch because I was so full with the lounge breakfast.

SFOLIS, we were there the same days, what time did you check in? We arrived about 11:30 or noon. Did you pay 570euro (190 for all 3 nights?) When they said pay for 2 get 3rd free, I thought we would just pay for 2 nights! The lounge breakfast food was fine, but our reservation said free buffet brk. When we went to the lounge, usually not til about 8 or 9 at night, there was no longer any food. We dont usually drink alcohol, so we only had a coke. The view was great! We had bad luck with our HHV stay over Christmas also, put in Diamond Head tower, 10th floor, we could hear all the trucks and busses loading up before 7am everyday!!! We have been diamond for several years (and earned it!), so I guess I am a little disappointed in our treatment! Did you stay downtown during the demenstation? Hope you had a good trip. We flew out of DTW on NW

I checked-in at about 4:30 pm. The clerk tried to asked me to upgrade to executive room for 87 euro night/extra. I politely turned her down. She check the screen, said "I see you are already a HHonor member", then after lots of key-punching, told me that I was upgraded to exectuive room. My experience is that when try to check-in at noon, many people haven't checked-out or the housekeeping haven't clear the room yet. With your diamond status, I would had ask later to see if upgrade become aviliable.

I paid 380 (126 * 3 or 180 * 2) Euro for my whole stay. I liked my room, but I was alone, and I think it would be too small for three people.

I throught executive lounge close at 8:00pm. I usually went back to hotel for shower and lounge before heading out to Leidsplein(sp??) anyway.

I actually went against the the traffic of the anti-war protest. I was finishing a morning visit at RijksMuseum. Walking toward the downtown direction and see police with anti-riot gears line up between the Museums, the entrance of Vondelpark, just south of the canal and Holland Casino. The whole thing was pretty peaceful and carnvial-like. I just took a few pictures and walk toward Centurm.

The whole trip is nice. It's one of my two trip on the infamous BA $20 fare. Knowing what I know now, I may had schedule the trip later in the year. But beside the cold weather, I enjoy this trip.

PointStretcher In Amsterdam

Hello,

Has anyone ever been able to redeem a Pointstretcher at the Amsterdam Schipol Airport Hilton?

Checking the next 3 months (which are the high shoulder season in Holland) they show no avaibility for PointStretcher during this time frame. (I want a Pointstretcher for one night in late June)

Checking Germany though .....ALL German Hilton properties have pointstretcher available during the next 3 months

If you were at first unable to get Pointstretcher at Amsterdam Schipol...and you were Diamond...were you able to succesfully use the Diamond overide to get the point stretcher on the day you wanted?

Thanks

It's the luck of the draw, I guess. And not much luck to it, IMHO. If it's high season or a high occcupancy date at a property (regardless of what's happening somewhere else, much less some other country, be it Germany or Guyana), there probably won't be Point Stretcher availability.

And if you get a Diamond award stay during a period when no standard (non-Diamond) award rooms are available, why would they offer you a Point Stretcher? (You do realize, don't you, that HHonors compensates cash to hotels for award stays, directly proportionate to the number of points redeemed?)

So, I'm sorry to say, but IMHO, I think you're out of luck. As a diamond, you get to stay, but you only get a standard reward. Point Stretcher acceptance (indeed, standard award inventory, as well) is entirely up to the hotel's discretion.

An unlikely scenario: you could call the GM and talk them into accepting a Point Stretcher. Good luck.

You may find the thread 2003 Point Stretcher Info Uploaded interesting. FWIW, back in February, NO German properties had ANY point stretchers Jan through Jun.

P.S. You did call, right? Sometimes the website does not have the most up to date information.

P.P.S. If you find yourself dialing Germany from Mesa, AZ, I highly recommend www.1010phonerates.com , showing German rates without monthly fee as low as $0.08 per minute, or $0.04 per minute with a 10 minute minimum.

I fully realize that Rut Dog

Hate to be blunt here Rut Dog...but I did not say there were no standard awards available in my posting...I only said no pointstretcher were available...so what are you talking about???

FWIW, back in February, NO German properties had ANY point stretchers Jan through Jun.
Things have changed from February to April Rut Dog...as I mentioned all German properties have PointStretcher as of today 21 April 2003

Thanks for the ad and headsup Rut Dog...I am all set with my international calling but maybe some of the other FTers will find your ad useful

Ozstamps: My bet is -- NO CHANCE. It is a lovely hotel for a GLON or two though. Rotterdam...maybe.

Capetown: Yes, I have redeemed a pointstretcher for the Schiphol property before. I think it was March 02.
