Does the hotel always upgrade Gold members? Or is this something you have to ask for?

Upgraded Accommodations/Amenities: HHonors Gold VIP members are offered upgraded accommodations or amenities at Hilton Family hotels. The type of upgraded accommodation or amenity varies by type of hotel, as follows:

At U.S. and Canadian Hilton hotels, and at Conrad and Doubletree hotels with Towers or Executive Levels, Gold VIPs will be provided with a guest room on the Towers or Executive Level floor, whenever possible. In cases when Towers or Executive Level accommodations have been fully booked, Gold VIP members will be offered either (1) the use of the Towers or Executive Level lounge, including complimentary continental breakfast each morning for the member and one additional person or (2) personalized certificates for each day of the stay for the member and one additional person valid for complimentary continental breakfast in the hotel coffee shop or all-purpose restaurant. At hotels without a Towers or Executive Level, Gold VIP members will be offered complimentary continental breakfast each morning for the member and one additional person. And when in hotels or when paying a rate where a complimentary breakfast is a benefit for all guests, Gold VIPs will be offered a special amenity as an expression of our appreciation.
At Hilton Family hotels outside the U.S. and Canada that have upgraded accommodation, Gold and Diamond VIPs will be upgraded to Executive Level or to the next best available room type. Upgraded rooms are subject to availability. At hotels that do not have upgraded types of accommodation, Gold and Diamond VIPs will receive additional amenities and/or services, which vary by property. For details and restrictions, as well as further information on benefits at Hilton Family hotels within the U.S. and Canada, click here.

Red face Redone Hilton Prague is really nice

Agree with latest comments. We have stayed there recently on Biz. Found the renovations to be a great improvement. Better training and attitude of employees from a year ago. Also found you could order more regular restaurant menus from WITHIN the the exec lounge. Good Food !!!

Highly recomended. Just have to remember to walk three minutes to the tram/subway station. Minor problem, given all the other improvements!!!

Hilton Prague

I tried to book a reward stay for July 25 & 26, 2006 but there was no availability :-(( Anyway a day later I went online to try and book a regular, paid stay and no rooms available - and something about renovating the rooms...does anyone have any more information?
What would be a good alternative - as there are no other Hilton properties...

I have stayed at the Prague Hilton a couple of times, and enjoyed myself. The hotel is however not in the main hub of things. The hilton is a good 15 min walk from the square or the Charles Bridge. A couple of other hotels such as The Intercontinetal and The Four Seasons are in a good location. I have not stayed at either, but many of my co-workers report good things about both properties.

I am not sure of the cost of either, but my company just added the Four Seasons as our prefered Prague hotel, so it can't too bad.

The above is true, but there is a subway stop a two minute walk away from the front door. If you learn to use the subway, you can get anywhere...and avoid the rip-off cabs.

They had started a room renovation program last year. In September a big part of the 7th floor, which is the executive floor, was closed for renovations. If they are working down I wouldn't be surprised if lower floors are progressively closed for construction.

The rooms used to have separate toilets and bathrooms. These are now combined in one so the reno involves knocking out walls.

Its a quality hotel and the renovated rooms are really luxurious.

I like to walk, so I have not tried the subway, but I saw the stop and agree it is close and should be a good way around town. I had reasonable luck with the cabs from the Hilton, but the cabs you find around town tend to be a rip off.

Well they should treat us better when the upgrade is finished:

Massive upgrade for Hilton Prague

Hilton is splashing out Euros 50 million on upgrading its mammoth hotel in Prague. The renovations include all 788 rooms along with the various food and beverage outlets and other facilities and the work is expected to be finished by 2008.

Prague is an increasingly popular destination with both business and leisure travellers. According to the Hilton Prague's marketing manager Marketa Sebkova, "The renovations are necessary to meet clients' increasing expectations and to keep track of the latest accommodation trends. They will provide greater comfort for corporate and leisure travellers alike.

Over 20 per cent of the accommodation has already been totally modernised and upgraded including the CzecHouse Grill and Restaurant with its open kitchen and which specialises in modern European and Czech traditional cuisine.

The two-level executive floor with its 137-rooms, 32-suites and dedicated lounge has been totally renewed. Guests staying here receive the usual benefits (separate check-in, free breakfast, snacks and so on) along with a free broadband link (in the lounge area) and use of a meeting room.

The current room size (28 square metres) reflects the standards when the hotel (originally called the Atrium but rebranded as a Hilton 10 years ago) opened some 15 years ago. In those days Prague had only a handful of Western-style hotels so the room size was considered perfectly adequate and guests found the atrium lobby to be jaw-dropping. But today the accommodation isn't as spacious as some guests might expect to find at a leading business hotel.

Says Marketa Sebkova, "The size of the rooms is driven by the architectural structure of the building and there isn't much that can be done in terms of size. However during the renovation we have maximised the space by adjusting the furniture layout. Also in the executive rooms we removed the wall between the bathroom and toilet. We now have four point bathrooms with a separate shower cabin." The Hilton is located on the right bank of the Vltava River, a short walk to the city's historical centre.

Room rates (including service and tax) for a mid-week stay in early May start at Euros 165 for a Value and Euros 205 for a Flexible rate room. Executive rooms cost Euros 230 and Euros 270 respectively.

Hilton Prague, Pobrezni 1, Prague 18600.

I'm a Gold staying here on an award stay in June. What's the best way to make sure I get one of the renovated rooms? E-mail hotel management?

Do not eat in the restaurant for dinner - you can do much better somewhere else.

no airconditioning, and opening the window (ours opened to the Atrium), did make it a bit noisy, as the sound carried upwards late at night.

I walked to the old town, and I would say 20 minutes is a fair estimate, but as it did rain pretty hard while there, I did resort to taking the metro, which was easy and cheap - especially as nobody appeared to validate their tickets, so you could use them more than once however they did have inspectors out - so cheat at your own risk!
No air conditioning? For real?
