Hi,
The immediate area to the North/South/East of Shinjuku as teemuflyer said is the active part and full of Neon but around the Hilton is more sedate and quieter ( you can see all the suited workers head to/from the offices from the lounge at the Hilton
The Conrad had a couple of beautiful large gardens near by then you are close to Shimbashi ( the old steam engine on the western side of the station was all decorated and lit up at night at new year and played music and simulated snow bubbles was neat) and you are close to the southern end of chuo-dori ( main shopping street in ginza)
The Conrad tokyo bears are small but lovely!
Regards

thx teemuflyer - im still torn! arghhhhh
i have quite a few friends that describe Shinjuku as Times Square!
i may flip a coin to decide - but ill probably stick w the Conrad...we havent had a bad experience at the 7 Conrads we have stayed at & i do enjoy adding to my stuffed animal collection

And to be perfectly cleat, I also enjoy the Conrad location a lot as well. It's just more subdued, high-end. Nothing wrong with that from my perspective either. I like Ginza as well.

Based on prior thread advice regarding children, we have booked our reservation as 1 adult + 2 children. We are invoking the Diamond benefit for the additional free adult. I had previously had it set as 2 adults + 1 child, and they wanted to charge me extra for the rollaway bed and lounge access for my other unlisted child. I emailed the hotel to confirm that everything is in order now - will report back when I get a reply. Why is this so convoluted?

I'm always impressed by the supproundings, how three dimensional a city area can be. So many levels for roads, walkways, buildings and public transport. Even Google maps can't really handle and support that 3d maze. So I totally agree, that it is far from being efficient or convenient and that you need more time to walk than expected. But on the other hand it is part of the distinctive character of that area. Like the many people walking around there, uniformed with dark trousers, dark shoes, dark briefcase and white shirt.

@frudd38 did you visit the Conrad Japan? How did it work out with the kids? I'm going through the same thing now for a future booking.

We decided to throw caution to the wind and stay here for the New Year for 5 nights. Will update with our impressions in 8 months from now.

Just to add my DP. Stayed at Conrad for three nights in early April. We have two children (aged 8 and 9). I even let them know in advance that I will have two children with me to make sure it's okay. There was never mention of fees for using the executive lounge for my children. We walked in and gave them my room number. Thats it. We were not charged any fees. I checked in at the front desk (and not at the executive lounge) and there was no mention of any fees either.
I was not upgraded to a suite but their standard room is pretty good size we were very comfortable (was upgraded to an executive bay view).
I did not need late check out but they did ask twice if I needed one.
Their concierge was able to get us a reservation at a 3-star Michelin restaurant when Amex concierge wasn't able to.
Overall it was a very nice stay!

Left Conrad Tokyo today after an - again - excellent 5 days stay booked by 380k points. Good value for points from my point of view. Was upgraded to an Exe Bay view room on the 37th floor, even the hotel was fully booked.
The Conrad Tokyo offers the most excellent service from all hotels of the Hilton group, I‘ve ever staid so far. It seems to me, that they are really thinking about making everything more perfect every day. I never experienced a Waldorf even close to that. I wished, that all management members from Conrads or WAs from around the world would have to come here to learn, how to do things right.
The check-in for example: They checked my flight tag at my luggage right after opening the trunk and welcomed me by my name. They dispatched that information to the lower lobby, where I was welcomed by my name again. I was escorted to the upper lobby to the check-in, where everything was prepared already, after getting dispatched the information about me as well. I was asked, if I would like to check-in in the executive lounge or right away at the counter. Just the idea of asking for the preferred option is not the Hilton standard unfortunately. I’ve chose the counter. As I was arriving early, they‘ve already checked, that my pre-checked in room was available already. Just a towel and welcome drink, checking my credit card and a sign of the papers and I was escorted to my room. I never been so fast in my room with everything done perfectly. No waiting time at the elevators, because they know how to optimise them.
I‘m really looking forward for my next stay here. Unfortunately I don‘t travel to Tokyo so often.

Any idea when award availability opens up at this hotel? I'm looking for a points stay in April 2020.
I emailed the hotel and they said they weren't open for those dates yet and they didn't know when they would be.
In the thread on the Tokyo Hilton it made it seem like some nudging may be in order at some point.
Thanks.
