Upgrades at ES Niagra Falls
I am going to the ES Niagra Falls next week. CAn I get on upgrade to a JR suite or better view? For Hilton I have it in my way for upgrades, but ES does not have that option. Never went to an ES with any other room choices other then a confrence room. I am sure January is not a busy time for them. Thanks for any input.

I don't think ES participates in the automatic upgrade that diamonds usually get, however considering that you are going in January, I'd think that your chances of getting an upgrade are pretty good. Not sure if you'll be upgraded to a junior suite, but the suites are all pretty roomy IMO. And the view from the fallsview side is incredible.

I don't believe that the ES has typical junior suites as the offer "real" suites. Try to secure a room not too high (maybe between 20 and 25). If you go too high you an easily be in the clouds with no view - I had that experience on their top floor last year. And yes, it is true: They do not offer any automatic upgrade.

Shouldn't be a problem getting an upgrade at this time of year. Suggest you request the upgrade in the comments section if you book online, and request a jacuzzi room if available. Most of the rooms, if not all, that have the whirlpool tubs (on the higher floors) have at least some view of the falls, some with only the Horseshoe Falls, and some with both sets of falls. Ask at check-in if you got the upgraded room, as room assignments are done the day before arrivals.
We've always had success with upgrades at this property as a HHonors Gold, even with booking the lower rate cityview rooms (not much to view from them), but YMMV if the hotel is booked heavily, of course.

Stayed there the first weekend of January, paid for a 'lower-floor 2-fallsview room' and the room number we were given ended in 01 which was an 'accesible' room -- large room with a wonderful view. Actually a 3-direction view since it's a corner room. Could see both falls easily and even beyond. I don't think I would want a higher room, this was in the upper teens. This room included a jacuzzi tub, etc. I wouldn't risk trying to get an upgrade from city view to falls view, I would recommend paying for lowest falls view and then perhaps being given an upgrade like we were given. The extra money paid for a guarantee of a fallsview is worth it, IMHO, it was great seeing the falls in the early morning sun, at night, etc.

Just left this morning. I had my pick of rooms. I only saw about ten people at breakfast, and that was the most I ever saw. Only one other table in the Keg last night for dinner. The place on weekdays is a ghost town and staff was overly friendly. tourist attractions do not open until 11 am during the week, thought I may hit some before I left for the airport, o well at least the room had a great view.

Did a stay here last week (22-24 May) as part of a travel-vacation. I actually did the online check-in, selected a, "city view," on the 40th floor (no upgrades given for online). When I arrived (about 11 PM), during check-in I asked if there were any upgrades. The agent gave me a Horseshoe Falls view room on the 22nd floor.
The room was great, fantastic view of the falls, from just sitting in the chair or on the bed. I had heard that some 'view' rooms had a very limited view (neck craning), not so with this. A word of caution--you can hear the falls going. I woke up during the night and wondered if there was a bathtub running, but it was the falls (even with the window closed). For 2 people the room had more than enough space, 2 queens, a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub (didn't use it), a window that opened up to the bedroom, a bar/fridge with sink, another bathroom sink, and a living room. The only issue was a toilet backup, seems common as when we called and said toilet they knew, and a maintenance guy was there in literally 3 minutes. The maid did leave 2 bottles of water and a snack (small bag of Chex mix).
Breakfast was a total mess. I'm usually not a big breakfast person anyway, and I don't understand why people have to shovel as much food onto their plate as they can. The first day, we saw wait staff walking around, asked for some drinks, and they said we weren't in their area. No one ever came, so we found a fountain area behind the buffet, and helped ourselves (no server=no tip). We just assumed the same on the 2nd day, and after we were all settled (food and drinks) a server came and asked if we needed anything, so I guess the service side is just spotty.
We never made it to The Keg (breakfast was there anyway), but did eat at Friday's inside the hotel, it was good but about 2x what it would normally be, but on par with the area. Never made it to the pool either, but I did look once during the day and it was overrun with kids.
Location was good, the view is more a top view of the falls, but fantastic at night with the lights shining on the falls. We had gotten some sort of adventure pass, included Maid of the Mist, behind the falls, walking along the rapids, butterfly exhibit, as well as bus/incline use. I had been to Niagara Falls a long time ago (as a child) and it was nice to see the area again.
Overall, it was a good experience. If I were to return to Niagara Falls, I would probably try the Hilton, but not against returning to the ES either.

HH Gold try to OLCI for tomorrow arrival. I booked a "10-15th floor two falls view" room and the options given to me are rooms on 15th or 16th floor end in 02 and 03. Should I take it now, or wait for my check in at around 8pm?

Well, assuming that 02 is next to the room I stayed in (ending in 01), I would imagine the view would be very good of both falls. Whether or not you want to wait for a higher floor would be up to you, this is a busy season for them... I think that these floors are fine, however, being closer to the falls...

Just completed two night stay at the ES Fallsview, on an award stay.
I made both award reservations the day of each stay... and was able to get in both times.
Made reservation for first night and was told cityview 2 Queen low floor was reserved but HH agent requested upgrade on cert that was faxed to hotel. Arrived around midnight and it was quite busy, valet area and lobby. Checked in, asked about upgrade and we had been upgraded to King Fallsview, jacuzzi but still lowish floor (10xx). Check in agent apologized several times but said that they were booked solid. From the crowds in the lobby area I believed him.
Our room did have a limited view of both falls. Sitting down in the chairs you could see the top 1/4 of each fall. Standing on the chairs you could see 3/4 of each fall.
I think if we had been on the 11th or the 12 in the same column of rooms our view would have been great. But as it was the roof of the Keg on the 9th floor obstructed our view. Not a huge deal since we arrived so late the first night.
We had planned on just staying over night checking out the falls and then leaving to drive home the next day but around 2pm the next day we were heading back to the ES to pick up our luggage from Bell Capt and our car when we decided to stay another night.
Called HH DD and made another res. Award res was made with no problem. Got to the hotel about 20 minutes later and checked back in. The desk agent was got a little confused about us checking back in and then not having the award cert (I had asked HH DD agent to fax it again to the ES). But a front desk Supervisor stepped in to help. I asked about an upgrade (specially higher floor) and he said (after checking for about 45 seconds) we do have higher floors but they will only be cityview. The only fallsview rooms we have are 2 Queen no jacuzzi on the 11th and 12th... and both views are a little obstructed. Or we could put you back in your same room if you want. I chose the same room as I know the kid's like the jacuzzi swimming pool (I mean, jacuzzi bathtub).
We visited the real swimming pool this time and enjoyed it.
(Goes w/o saying majority of ES are family w/ kid magnets).
The pool had lots of kids (and their parents) but was not overly crowded imo. There are two hot tubs separated by a wall (waterfall on both sides) and I initially thought one might be designated adults only. That was not the case as kids would move from one to the other. But it was a nice thought.
There is a large outdoors sunning area outside of the pool area and there were about 8-10 adults lying out there. Did not see any kids out there.
Breakfast both days was good as ES breakfasts go. First day we all went down and ate on the 9th floor. At first there was some seating confusion but our seatress (?) apologized several times and was friendly with our kids so all was well. After finally sitting down, took about 2 minutes to find an area that was not closing down / waitperson leaving soon, we were able to get our food very quickly... no lines except at the made to order station (omelets, etc). And that was only about a 3 minute wait.
Our waitress (Anna) came by and was quite attentive being friendly to the kids and making sure we had enough coffee. She asked if we would be there tomorrow and at the time we were not planning on it so told her no. I assume she asked so we could be seated in her area.
Breakfast Food Sidenote: Pineapple was very fresh and good!
The second day we got to go containers and ate in the room.
Again waitstaff was friendly and helpful in getting to go containers and helping get things together.
When we first checked in, on the first day, the check-in agent asked what time we would like to eat breakfast as they have designated times. He did not specify the actual times but asked if we would prefer earlier or later. He said, "I would guess later since you all are checking in so late and would probably like to sleep in a little bit." I agreed. I looked at the breakfast ticket but can not recall now the actual times listed. But we did eat breakfast about 10am our first morning and I recall seeing some signage saying they closed at 11am. Our second day we were not asked what time we would like to eat breakfast so it is possible that they only have that in place on the weekends.
I would stay at this property again. If the kids were not along then I would probably look into the Hilton as an alternative but the ES would be above the DT imo.
NF Area information:
We ate dinner at My Cousin Vinny's, a couple blocks from the ES, and while the outside live music was good the food was very very poor to very mediocre, just an FYI.
Incline Railway is close to the ES and makes for a easy way to get to and from the Falls. We ended up walking down to the Falls and it was not too far for us with two younger kids... they only started complaining about being tired (of walking) right before we got to the falls. We took the Incline back up.

The 'zoo' special is back
Received an email last week that the special with $50 Keg Rest. certificate is back, $119 US for city view this time (other falls' views start at $125), through end of February. I believe the promo code is TVLZOO but if you call in they will know about just 'zoo'. No Saturday availability, some Friday nights, mostly Sun - Thurs. We're taking advantage of 1 Friday night, then award for Saturday night. Hope to keep the same room both nights (got a falls view), although the award is 'only for cityview'...
Daughter turns 19 in Feb., this is a b-day trip... she'll be able to sample adulthood -- actually participate in manager's reception and get inside the casino lol
