The local newspaper today included a brief advert for a new Embassy Suite opening this summer.

Just saw a press release that this hotel is opening on 7/10/03.
However, when I went to its website, it did not state anything whether it accepts/gives HHonors points -- perhaps like the one in HI.
I called the direct toll free number of the hotel and they do accept HHonors points and they are a Category 4.
In addition, agent advised they are accepting reservations for 7/10 and onwards, but that hotel is planning to open on 7/1/03.
I do not know if it is a soft opening with reduced rates, etc., but thought that someone would like this information if they plan to visit the area around this time.

Anyone who's been there or knows please...which would you choose? The Hilton Niagara Falls or the Sheraton on the Falls? I had a reservation at the Sheraton Fallsview for next week and had to change my dates and now the Fallsview isn't available anymore (sounded like the best place before). Or maybe the Marriott? But I like to stay at Sheratons or Hiltons because of the elite programs.
Also, can someone recommend a hotel near the Toronto Airport? Especailly Hilton versus Sheraton, since I am elite with those two. I've never been to Canada...and I'm 46. First time for everything!

Arfie,
I was a regular at the Hilton Fallsview shortly after 9/11 throughout that winter. I regularly booked $49 CAD city view rooms and got upgraded to a Junior Suite with whirlpool and falls view 95% of the time. During the "high" season, the rates will be a good bit higher and you may not be as successful with the free upgrades, but the junior suites are very nice as is the free buffet breakfast that comes with status.
Good luck

All the "fallsview" hotels looked like they had great views. They all seem to perch right on the edge of the cliff. The only casino I am aware of is that one that on top of the tower, and it is well away from the other hotels.
As for YYZ, I loved my stay at the Mariott (was on free night certs, otherwise I would have done the Hilton). We stopped off at the Hilton on the shuttle and, frankly, it looked kind of dumpy on the outside. I was not very impressed, but then it could be magnificent on the inside.

^ My wife, son and I stayed here last weekend and had a great experience! This is a fantastic location with a super professional staff. The breakfast buffet was awesome and not very crowded. We had a very nice Falls view room with Jacuzzi and will be back for sure! ^

Just got back from the ES NF
My wife and I just got back from the ES Niagara Falls, not two hours ago. This was our fourth or fifth stay since it opened last June. We spent two nights there (I'm on vacation this week), and, as usual, were pleased with the hotel, and our stay. Calling the hotel directly last week got us a better rate than I was able to find on the ES website, or the through the casino, and we got upgraded as a HHonors Gold, to a Fallsview Suite, on a high floor. Room includes an inroom jacuzzi, and large picture windows overlooking the Falls. Free shuttles to the casino (the new casino won't be opening until late June, only half a block from this ES), if you're interested. Stay included free hot buffet breakfast (eggs and omelets made to order) for everyone, and manager's reception in the afternoon.
Didn't realize that it's still school break in the U.S. (it's over in Canada), and all the hotels in the area are filled with families, including the ES, which was booked solid, with lots of indoor pool time for the kids. But no problems in the rooms, no outside hallway noise at all (you'll always hear the roar from the Falls, less than a block away).
A couple of notes though: First, the parking fee is $20 CAD per day, and the taxes on the room, etc., are also charged on the parking fee. Also, this time we noticed a " Destination Promo Fee" of $3.00 tacked on each day, and a few cents more for same fee added to the parking. We asked that it be removed, and it was, but we were told it would be mandatory from now on, as it was set by the municipality. Not happy about that.
Still in all, we think the ES NF is worth a visit if you're in the area. They recognize HHonors status with upgrades, and ES perks.

I did not mind the $20.00 valet parking because like you said it was in Canadian $$s and the attendants were full of information and very pleasant. (The exchange rate is very favorable for US travelers.)
I never noticed the other $3.00.
It seems that $15.00-$20.00 is getting to be the norm for parking at a lot of the locations that I have been staying at here in the States.

Last week, Mrs. Jjaz and I went to Niagara Falls for a few days of R&R. We had booked a reward stay at the Embassy Suites Fallsview. Upon arrival, we asked if our room had a view of the famous and fabulous falls. We were told, "No. Your room has a city view." The clerk went on to explain that this was the type of room given for a "reward" stay.
We asked if we could get a falls view room. She said, "Sure, but there would be a charge of $100 Canadian per night." We said, "Huh?" She went on to explain that $100 is the difference in room rate between a city view and a falls view room. The certificate covers the city view for free. To get a falls view room would cost $100 per night.
Is this correct? I am HHonors Gold, so I thought upgrades were standard practice and at no charge. It is because this was a reward stay that the upgrade policy did not apply? Would it be worth a call to HHonors to ask if the charges could be reversed?
On a side note, the clerk did waive the $15 per day parking fee. She also put us on the 40th floor with a spectacular view. The room even had a jacuzzi in the bathroom! What's more, there was a window over the jacuzzi that opened into the bedroom! Not sure why, other than if some newlyweds were unable to take the time to go through the door!
There were only two bad things about the stay. First, there were only four elevators servicing 42 floors. They each stopped at every floor. More than once, we got on an empty elevator going down at floor 40 and it was full by floor 30. The car stopped at every floor below that had the button pushed. The people there looked very despondant that another full elevator arrived!
Second, there is no high speed internet access in the rooms. I asked and it was available in their business center - at a rate of only $5 per 15 minutes! This should be standard at all properties by now, shouldn't it?
Anyway, your input and replies are most welcome, as always.
Thanks a bunch!

I have stayed at this hotel on a paid stay as Gold.
Paid an amount (can't remember how much) to upgrade to exactly the type of room you described. View was fantastic and was was worth the extra.
Can't help you on an award stay but I guess that these Falls View rooms must be in heavy demand.
