Belated add-on comment on my part on a slow day, in part because this thread was revived today.

Regarding the pool I agree that overall StR is better than WA. However the views from WA are nicer since you can see the sports club in the distance. At StR the pool does not go all the way to the edge like WA does, and the chairs near the edge are looking back at the hotel rather than look at the view. That is one way where the pool at WA is better, but other than that the rest goes to StR's advantage in terms of the overall feeling and set-up at the pool.

Regarding the fitness center I hope by now WA has weights above 16 kgs. But apart from that, equipment at WA is far better than StR where several machines are not working very well particularly the TV attached to ellipticals, treadmills, etc. WA has modern equipment with large glossy screens.

While the newer WA hard product supposedly looks quite nice, its single pane window and concomitant noise issues and other cheap furnishings are a real downer. For a brand new build, that's pretty disappointing for a luxury segment property in this town.

I can't think of any hotels in Asia at the Waldorf/Conrad/Hilton level where checking in after midnight would be an issue or even considered anything out of the ordinary.

Another enjoyable stay for a few days, everything as before and still had the brand new feel, but I was surprised to see several water leaks in the lobby area from the heavy rains. Looks to be poor seals around some of the windows, so some towels on the floor around the window areas. I suspect there is some regret in not having better insulated windows generally throughout the hotel...

The 56th floor bar seems to have really found its stride and was packed each night (Wed-Sat). Excellent drinks.

Still prefer the 06&07 series rooms at the back given they are quieter, downside being no views (06 in particular).

Now at the St Regis, no such problems, and looks like a number of touch ups have occurred in the last few weeks (carpet deep cleaning, fresh paint etc). Shame about the weather, but good excuse to stay indoors and relax!

Just completed another couple of nights, despite very high occupancy owing to public holidays in China and high number of guests, still got an upgrade to a suite, and all staff were really attentive, even greeted us by name throughout. The (new?) chocolate tarts and chocolates in room as a welcome gift were delicious! Great to see preferences remembered too on room service delivery, really did feel like being ‘home’. Breakfast was very busy, but general and duty managers walking around to ensure a smooth operation. Still one of the best breakfasts I’ve seen ... usually I skip completely, but the salad bar, bread and cheese selection, and decent coffee are too tempting! Front Room has a new menu too ... delicious. Still a firm favourite, be back soon.

I must be having bad luck with service at this property. Just gave it another try and once again the service was wildly inconsistent. Some excellent, but with several instances of barely adequate, and a couple really annoying (especially at check-in and breakfast). The inconsistency and sometimes amateurish service efforts probably wouldn't bother me if this were the Marriott Marquis, but it rubs me the wrong way at a supposed five star property.

Booked Corner suite, upgraded to Astoria suite on 8th floor (which is too low). Lack of power outlets is baffling (and particularly annoying when trying to work at the table). While traffic noise (especially the motorbikes) didn't interfere with sleep, it was very noticeable. Bed is too hard for my taste. Bathroom counter space was very tight for two people.

The $1000 THB bar credit for Diamonds is very generous, but was not explained at check-in and when I called to ask about it (and any other Diamond benefits that might be offered), the staff member I spoke with could not confirm whether it existed or what the terms were. Nevertheless, at check-out, it was applied to our tab from the Champagne Bar, making those $1200 THB glasses of Billecart a bit less painful.

Our welcome gift (as Diamond in a paid premium suite) was a very small fruit basket and two tiny (bite size) lemon meringue tarts. Would have loved chocolates

That’s a shame as they do have some really great staff, but it should of course be an excellent experience all of the time given the brand.

The low floor suite may have been due to high occupancy, but yes, I would have had to take something else or downgrade as I cannot sleep in the low floor rooms (or suites) at the front of the hotel if motorbikes are revving past all the time. Even on the 15th you still hear them, although it’s much worse on the lower levels. My one complaint about this hotel continues to be lack of sound insulation between outside and inside (between rooms seems perfect), which means the more premium rooms suffer from the most noise.

Usually within the room card sleeve they include a “diamond benefits” insert, it’s business card size, outlines the benefits.

If you like chocolate I highly recommend the Siam Chocolate fondant from The Brasserie (you can order it to the room) and Thai tea ice cream!

I did look for something like that, but didn't find anything.

The gal who checked us in told us she had just started working at W/A. Among other things, she announced she had "upgraded" us to a Corner suite, which of course was the booked room class. IMO she should not have been checking guests in w/out direct supervision (and there were three other staff members in the reception area, no other guests). It was not a great start to the stay.

1000THB is $32 USD. I spent $1400/night on a suite here (room 1215). Even AMEX gives $100.

They don't have to give Diamonds anything. You'd get it even if you were redeeming points. And whether various other rates (e.g., FHR) provide additional benefits is of course a different question.

Personally, I try not to complain about free stuff

Wow, that’s a lot! I had thought 15 series was a deluxe park view? I’ve been in 1515 before and it wasn’t a suite (the suite is next door).

Just to clarify, they give Diamonds free breakfast (which is good), 1000 THB spa credit, food and beverage credit, 50% bonus points, late check-out, room upgrade (subject to availability). While individually it’s not amazing value, combined it’s ok/good I think, or better than nothing!

The FHR rates are only available to select Amex members, and the rates are often higher than best available on Hilton Hons, but when there’s a good rate it’s a good deal.

Yup. I was just in 816 and it was an Astoria suite. 815 would have been deluxe park view.

Perhaps 12th floor is numbered differently? $1200 US would be $36,000 THB . . . I see 2 BR Waldorf Suite priced in that range.

Wife and I stayed here for 2 nights last week. Here are my thoughts;

We booked using a free night cert and points. I booked a standard king deluxe room.

Upon arrival in the Grab, we were mobbed by about 5 members of staff. Talk about service!! We were escorted from the first floor all the way up to the lobby which is located on the top floor. You are immediately greeted with stunning views of the city. It is obvious from walking around the lobby the hotel is brand new. Although we checked in early they did not have a room for us. As a diamond, I only got a 1 x room upgrade to a city view.

After a long day exploring the City we came back and got keys for the room. Again, the staff was everywhere making sure you were Ok and asking if you needed anything. A noticeable difference to the Conrad.

The room - wow. Simply amazing. Although it is on the small side, the layout and design are really nice. Whereas the Conrad rooms are more a typical hotel room, the room here has a specific design, with a light wood all over, which is not of a typical hotel room, if that makes sense. The room felt very light and airy. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was amazing.

As a Diamond, the only real notable benefit we got was a 1000 THD credit which can be used towards food and drink. There was also a 1000 THD credit towards the spa but due to the overall expensive prices, we didn't use it.

The pool is located at the top of the hotel and has some great views. We hung out one afternoon and again, staff was on top of their game making sure waters were topped up.

Breakfast was located in one of the restaurants and had an extensive selection.

All in all had an amazing 2 days here and we would defiantly stay here again.

Well, all hotels of that price range in Bangkok offer the good things, which you‘ve described. Some of them in an even better way.

On my last three stays I’ve booked some of WA‘s competitors (St. Regis, Siam Kempinski, Rosewood). Got a better treatment at all of them compared to my DIA experiences at the WA.

And there are many other hotels in Bangkok on that level, i.e. close to the river. Bangkok is a paradise for luxury hotels. The only two reasons to stay at the WA are to give it a try and to collect Honor points/stays/nights.
