Shockingly, this Diamond was upgraded to an honest-to-goodness suite for a 4-night stay over Labor Day weekend at the Saratoga Hilton.

It wasn't an immediate upgrade. It only happened after I went back to the front desk to complain that my originally assigned room had a connecting door. While the suite did have a connecting door to the adjacent room (front desk thought the connecting door was in the living room as opposed to the bedroom), I was still willing to make that tradeoff and have the abundant space of a suite.

As icing on the cake, when I later extended my stay for 3 more nights (separate reservation), I was allowed to keep the same suite.

Saratoga Hilton.

(What's interesting to me is that several of my best suite upgrades ever have taken place in a program, HH, that doesn't really advertise suite upgrades as a possibility for Diamonds. Bonvoy, like Starfraud Preferred Guest before it heavily promotes access to suite upgrades and almost always refuses to upgrade. I think I like the HH way of promising almost nothing and occasionally overdelivering versus the Bonvoy way of promising a lot and almost always underdelivering)

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station

I booked a base room on points with fifth-night-free and was provided an Executive Suite. I never felt so special at a hotel! (Perhaps I need to get overseas more.)

What room did you book originally? From the pic the suite looks like not renovated, correct? Were you given breakfast at a restaurant? Many thanks, good travels!

Thanks! We booked King Classic Ocean View. The suite was not renovated, I think somebody said that the smaller rooms are the ones which got renovated ...

When we did the check-in at the EL, we were told that we could either go to the main restaurant for the American breakfast or have it in the EL where they serve continental breakfast. We always have breakfast in the main restaurant when given the options

Hilton San Jose - lowest fare room into a suite. Not sure which one but included: dining room, 2nd bathroom (powder room), living room.

Which San Jose? Costa Rica? California? I’m sure there are others.

You clearly have some special charme to achieve that upgrade record!

Hampton Inn & Suites Cleveland Airport/Middleburg Heights. Booked the cheapest rate, FD asked if they could upgrade me to a suite. I stay here often but this is the first time the FD mentioned an upgrade. I know it's not much but it's better than nothing.

Two out of three in London this week.

Booked: Queen Guest Room
  • Curio Hart Shoreditch: Junior Suite
  • Doubletree Victoria: Junior Suite
  • London Metropole - no upgrade and a thoroughly depressing experience all round!

Conrad Midtown NYC, 1 night (reward redemption, 2 queen). (This was in August, late to post). Upgraded upon arrival to a 2 room suite, teddy bears for my kids, and an offer of a free meal for my (visibally sad looking) 10 year old daughter (nasueated from the BOS to NYC Acela ride). Edited to add: Amazing location, we walked everywhere we were aiming to, and lovely service all around.
