Hilton Salalah was 5,000 points a night two years ago. Now it's 30,000 points a night.
Stayed at Hilton Kota Kinabalu last year for 20,000. It's now 30,000.

Just a few days ago, i booked an award stay that got me .9 cents per point. I felt like I hit the jackpot.
Then I remembered the GLONP awards from long ago....... Those were the good old days (Yes, I am going to go yell at the kids to get off my lawn now).
I have been expecting a further devaluation for some time. Because of it I have been very cautious to not sit on a massive amount of Hilton Points.... Though like many I am disappointed if there has been a no-warning major devaluation.

Judging by FT, I'd say that Hilton is the only hotel chain where having the co-branded credit card is almost intrinsic to the choice of hotel chain. i.e. it's easy enough to find reasons to be loyal to Hyatt, Marriott, etc. with or without a credit card. Hilton? Not so much...
Although I agree with you, many credit card holders just treat devaluations as a reason to do even more MS, or to hold even more tightly to their credit card to earn more points on hotel stays than the general public.

I don't doubt that many hotel choices are made due to location, but it is completely impossible for Hilton to have precisely the perfect location in every single place that a traveller visits. So you don't choose to be loyal TO A CHAIN based on location, you choose based on other factors. And if you choose Hilton Honors based on the location of one or two specific hotels, then you are indeed missing something...

Surprised the blogs have not picked this up yet. Seems Hilton has surreptitiously increased rates almost across the board.

Hilton Tokyo: 60k -> 70k
Hilton YVR: 40k -> 50k
DT Park City Yarrow ski season: same (60k)
DT Breckenridge ski season: same (60k)
Hilton Whistler: same (80k)
Conrad HKG: same (80k)
Conrad SIN: same (60k)
All the 95k Conrads that I checked appear to be staying put at 95k.

You are missing something... (I'm not saying that to be argumentative or dismissive)

I'm of the opinion that many people are pledging loyalty for things that aren't of great value. Free breakfast is irrelevant to any business traveler working for a decent company. And upgrades to larger rooms aren't important to a lot of single travelers. (If traveling with friends or family and you need that larger room, the fact that upgrades are based on availability makes it a useless benefit.)
Being loyal and becoming a top-level elite is really smart for some people. But, it's not smart for everyone.

Elite benefits are irrelevant to a discussion of no-notice devaluations and I agree that people can value those differently.
My original comment is that many people on FT seem to justify a loyalty to Hilton and its fast-devaluing points currency, because they think they can get the credit card and still do alright. Which is why a devaluation won't bother them quite as much as it probably should...

Excuse the ignorance but I am relatively new to Hilton, is there no awards chart available with Hilton say for example I have 30,000 points and I want to see where I can use that points? is there anywhere I can find out which options I would be able to chose from?
