Yes, I am going to follow up with customer care on this. I think not clearly disclosing the fee is pretty shady and also think tacking it on to an existing reservation without warning is plain wrong.

If you do try and make a one-way reservation now, you will see the new pricing with the fee included (at least in NYC). 24/7 has pretty much lost its worth to me. I'll go back to mass transit/taxis/regular Hertz for my airport transportation needs.

I can see the new higher rates for one-way rentals in NYC. My reservation is still showing the old rate which is coming up in a week.

I have had 9 out 10 issues when picking up cars from this service. The low cost of the one-way deals made it bearable. But the higher rates will force me back into using the taxis which is more stress-free.

Let me know what happens with customer service FlyinHawaiian..... Thanks.

Based on my experience, expect the $35 one way charge for your reservation, even if the old rate is showing. That's my main beef at this point.

I know, I was afraid of that........

FWIW, I was able to get old reservations grandfathered by calling in, even after making minor changes to them.

At any rate, this puts an end to what used to be a great option for NYC-based flyers (even if only to end up getting a free taxi most of the time).

That's probably the reason for the changes. Hertz probably lost too much money on taxis. Car sharing is not like a normal one-way rental, which Hertz is usually good at. The number of cars is smaller and more thinly spread out, which reduces the one-way flexibility.

When Hertz first introduced Connect (now 24/7), they used one-way rentals as a selling point over Zipcar. I suppose they found out the logistics of supporting one-ways was costlier than expected.

Pedantic note: I'm pretty sure ConnectByHertz was a straight Zipcar clone and didn't allow one-ways. I think they added one-ways when ConnectByHertz was renamed HertzOnDemand (before it was renamed again to Hertz 24/7). But otherwise I think you're right. And I could be wrong.

I'm more often wrong than right (except when choosing which city to live); I joined right when they were transitioning to OnDemand (my card is branded Connect).

I took a cab to LGA on Friday morning and I am burning ZE1 points for a one-way home tonight from LGA. I may continue to use 24/7 for JFK or EWR.

I used to tell my friends in NY to take Hertz 24/7 to go to the airport and even possibly the FlyerTalk community. I've been dealing with Hertz 24/7 for the past week about a one-way reservation I had to LGA. This experience would be a cautionary tale for anyone planning to use 24/7 to go to or from JFK, LGA, or EWR.

The background of this is that I reserved a one-way rental in August 2013 for Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 9:00 AM for a one-way rental to LaGuardia. My wife and I were flying to Korea on DL via DTW. At any rate, they sent me an email at 8:31 AM, when I was already en route to the reservation site, that there was a problem with my reservation. Apparently the email also stated that they'd find me an alternative vehicle but there was no follow up to this at all.

At 8:50, I arrived on site at E. 13th St. and Fourth Avenue in Manhattan. Parking attendants said there was no car for me. I call Hertz 24/7 and a customer rep is looking for a car. She can't find any. By 9:20, she offered me to reimburse me a cab ride but I didn't want to have to deal with that. She then directed me to a normal Hertz location on Lafayette to get a one-way rental.

The rep told me that I would have to pay for gas but that the car itself would be free of charge. I was annoyed that I'd have to pay for gas since gas is normally included with a Hertz 24/7 rental but I had no choice. I took the car without having to provide my credit card information and it seemed that Hertz 24/7 was doing everything to make a wrong situation right.

I got to LaGuardia just after the cut-off time for checking bags and so we missed our original flight to DTW but was able to take the next flight out at no charge from Delta (Thanks Delta!). I also explained the situation to the check-in agent and she was very nice about the situation.

Fast forward to October 6, 2013, Hertz 24/7 sends me an invoice for $62.93 with no breakdown of the charges. I logged into my account and there was no breakdown of the charges. I called in and a rep told me that it was the hourly fee plus a one-way fee. He said the one-way fee started in October 2013. Why they are charging me that fee for a September rental they offered me free of charge is beyond me...

At any rate, I'm now trading emails with Hertz 24/7 who said the agent I spoke with on September 7 had no authority to get me any other car rental or to even offer me a reimbursement for a cab ride (glad I didn't do that). At this point, I'm disputing the charges with American Express.

I would say Hertz 24/7's business practices are questionable at best. Even if I were to be charged the rental, they are now adding a $35 one-way fee that didn't exist in early September and to this day, there is no mention of this fee on their website: http://www.hertz247.com/NewYork/en-US/About/Oneway or http://www.hertz247.com/NewYork/en-US/About/FAQ#faq_7

I think it's absurd that they come back a full month later and charge me for a vehicle. In addition it's shocking that they didn't even try to find me another vehicle before the 9:00 AM rental. My cell phone records will also prove that they made no effort to call or text me.

If you plan on doing car-share, stick with ZipCar. I've never had an issue with them and I've used them since 2004. Hertz 24/7, you just lost my business because your customer service is inept.

I too have the old Connect branded card and a newer Hertz 24/7 card. They now hit you with a $35 one-way fee they make no mention of in any reservation or on their website. Seems sticking with cabs will still be cheaper.

I've done the Hertz one way to LGA on a sunday afternoon. It works well but the time window that the deal is good for is really short. (Thurs afternoon through Friday morning to Manhattan and Sunday afternoon to the airports). They're basically getting you to shuttle cars in to and out of Manhattan for the weekend rush.

Quote: If you use social media, I've found their Facebook rep to be very responsive. My concerns/complaints posted on their page have been responded to via private communication and escalated to Member Care. If you see my post a little bit up, Member Care had no problem paying for ALL of my regular Hertz rental and the gas I used when 24/7 stranded me at EWR last month. Good luck!
How long does it typically take for Hertz to reimburse cab fare resulting from a non-available 24/7 rental? I sent in my receipts several weeks ago to Customer Care and have not heard anything back.
