Finnair Alicante

Just noticed an information from their website on booking section that Finnair flies direct to Alicante during 26.3.17 - 28.10.17. Booking not available yet.
Schedule is once a week or more?

(If true, very welcome new route; at least they finally read and replied my route suggestion on Facebook two years ago. They are going to have new customers; I usually go SK metal and few D8).

^ great

Sadly they usually don't add connecting fares for these destinations - they are mainly considered for Finns. Sometimes there are ARN-HEL-... but never CPH-HEL-xxx :-(

Well AGP works. But if they have flights at 6 a.m. from HEL it doesn't make too much sense. The winter schedule to that destination even looks quite weak if I compare it to SK's from ARN.

They are now selling tickets for the SFO-HEL-SFO flights, although including a Slush pass:
https://www.finnair.com/int/gb/slush2016-helsinki

"Finnair Plus tier members are not entitled to an Economy Comfort seat free of charge on this flight."

Seems to book into L and accrues 100% points.

Will these flights in the AY4000 series actually be eligible for points?

And why hasn't AY quoted any J prices?

What do you think about HEL-SFO-HEL? Empty ferry flights without cabin crew?

With reasonable price at least I would have been tempted taking HEL-SFO-HEL. Just wonder what is the reason not selling those, perhaps no enough demand for just a couple of days, but if it was possible combining outbound or inbound with some other flights, it might change it.

I've been wondering the exact same.

The extra NRT-HEL-NRT flights on Golden week are (or were) on sale the opposite directions, so why not those?

Operating costs, ie ground handling charges etc. are significantly lower (~30-50%) for ferry flights with no passengers.
Crew costs, flight tickets for "dead head" crews, accommodation expenditure, allowances etc. are also surprisingly high and I think AY is not willing to take a financial risk for selling this type of one-off itinerary for HEL-SFO.
Not an easy task to sell let's say even 50% of the seats in the end of November.

ITA Matrix now shows the direct HEL-SFO-HEL AY4511/4512 in K class for €1278. However, it's not bookable on AY.com or Expedia.

Probably not because the price includes a Slush pass and the flight is only for those who registered for the event.

I thought it was only included when flying in the opposite direction.
