What's the point of buying status? Flying the status gives the experience, fun and the routine of actually flying. Without flying one could be just as happy without the status anyway.

Status makes something that is not always fun (flying in Y, especially for work) more bearable. This is what most people get from status. Spending 4k to get status for your work travel / holiday flights per year > spending 3.5k and many hours in cramped planes.

For me, there is still some "magic of flying" involved (i.e. it can be fun), but segment running in ATRs would simply be too painful to be worth it.

There were some rumours about this lately! Probably wise to use aircraft capacity for something – I understood these would be operated with Airpro crew.

Let's see where the maintenance of these wet-lease aircraft will take place. The ARN longhauls have rotations where the aircraft are not permanently based in ARN but each plane comes to HEL once in a while, so scheduled maintenance can be done by Finnair's own team in HEL. AY doesn't fly to LAS or TPA from HEL, so there a similar approach doesn't work. Maybe we will se occasional HEL - FRA - HEL and HEL - MUC - HEL flights operated with A359's for getting the planes "home" on a regular basis.

Uh but how does this work? That looks like a rotation HEL-FRA-HEL. Swapping planes at FRA?

Saksalaisen ilmailualan media Aerotelegraphin mukaan Finnair tulee lentämään toukokuun puolestavälistä lähtien kolme lentoreittiä Saksasta Yhdysvaltoihin: Frankfurtista Las Vegasiin ja Tampaan sekä Münchenista Las Vegasiin.... old news, even in Savon Sanomat! On the other hand, if AY flight numbers are also involved, this is just a healthy improvement.

No ay flight numbers, but good for ay to use capacity for monet not to keep planes sitting around idle and good to have some more widebody eu flights

New AY strategy seems to be: get rid of pax business. Lease aircraft and fly cargo. Fair enough, business talks.

In all fairness, I don't think AY actively chose to get rid of their China&Japan business, did they? Isn't it only a good thing that they're actively seeking something that keeps their expensive planes busy?
