I was just in contact with trip.com to find out which Business fare class they would book me into on Finnnair for HKG-LHR-HKG return. Am I correct that they can only book me into a Business fare class (J, C, D or I) that is shown on Cathay's app as being eligible for Asia Miles + Club Points?

Or is there some risk that they may have access to some other Business fare class that is ineligible for Cathay Club Points?

The chat support person couldn't help me unless I'd already booked it... at which point it's a bit late to find out.

Thanks for any insight. I'm not an expert on Finnair and want to accrue the points to Cathay.

I have not seen any revenue AY business class tickets having a class other than J/C/D/I. U class is used for awards, but an OTA should not have this anyway. So I believe you should be fine.

I thought that ticket types are not used on flight between Finland and NA (and the same applies to Japan) until my recent experience. I had a campaign ticket between HEL and ORD and received only 2500 points / flight. Booking class was O and fare basis O1CGF1B4. I was expecting that there would be no ticket type and I would get the points according to the booking class, but CS told me that as a campaign ticket it will earn only 25% points.

Quite disappointing that a ticket type that give less points is available, but a ticket type giving more points (Value) is not available.

If ticket class light and O, I received 2500 HEL-JFK, I was expecting 5000, correct?

Should be 50 %, ie 5000 for Plat.

I have an O class ticket to JFK in May. I'd be grateful if you could let me know if AY corrects this after you contact them.

I had O class ticket to JFK and I also got only 25% points. Fare basis was O1CGF1B4, same as post 167. I don't remember what was ticket type when I booked it but ticket type was light in confirmation email.

They told me now that my ticket was campaing, but confirmation say LIGHT

I've got OLX4C8B4. Let's see what happens.

Campaign is ticket type and they are not valid on NA traffic.

Another dose of AY inconsistency.....

I bought a sale/campaign fare to JPN in class Q and it credit as 5k as supposed. Those JFK fares crediting as 2,5k is completely against the general crediting rules. It shouldn’t be so hard for AY to play by the rules they set themselves.

OH-LGG Feb 21, 2020 7:55 am

Again AY does not know their own rules.

Yet I've had the same experience: 25% earnings on a Campaign ticket to ORD. I asked the Plat desk to fix it, but they said it's correct because it was a Campaign ticket.

It's so disappointing that they apply the ticket type when it reduces earnings, even though the ticket types are not otherwise used on Trans-Atlantic flights.

Just because there's no ticket types on JV routes does not mean that there's no campaign fares. On non-JV routes, booking codes for Light and Value can earn as Campaign. If I recall correctly it shows with a 0 inserted in the fare basis.

Also "Light" as nothing to do with Finnair ticket types on JV routes. It's a fare class of the JV. It just so happens to have the same name for the same reasons, bag allowance. With that said, I don't know how the Campaign criteria is coded in the fare basis for the transatlantic JV, nor the Japan one for that matter. And I would hardly be surprised if there was no ways whatsoever to see it before payment.

Admittedly, it does contradict the Finnair Plus published rules that tickets without types earn according solely to the booking code. But it would not be the first time that the fare basis leads to lower earnings than expected: it was already happening with AB-operated code-shares TOUR fares (when AB was still a thing). They really should stick to W code for transatlantic campaigns.

Last year I bought one campaign ticket. Confirmation : CAMPAING
But now confirmation : LIGHT

W is out of inventory and now waiting for Economy Comfort.

If you get 25% from Atlantic JV- routes, your booking code must be A or G. O is 50%

I fully agree. It is true that the TATL and JPN JV agreements could include difference clauses affecting the earnings, but it should be up to AY to market them transparently with an appropriate fare code – there are plenty of 25% letters available in the earning table.
