Current and historical promotions

This is a thread for reporting details of promotions in the Finnair+ program.

The purpose of the wiki is to keep a repository of current and historical promotions. This works best if all details are given in a post of the thread. Once such a post is made, edit the wiki and add a short description of promo in headline-style, with a link to the post that holds the detailed information. (You can create such a link by right-clicking the post-number and copy link location).
Do not link to the promo itself from the Wiki, as the promo page is likely to disappear once the promo ended and such link will die, leaving the wiki sans historical info.

Feel free to discuss alterations to the format in the thread below.

Do not delete historical posts.

Again, nice to finally have a "earn more points-offer" (long-time-no-see).

Yet I wonder what the marketing purpose of this is.

a) No registration required, so many will recieve extra points without even knowing there was a promotion. Ie a cost for AY without any benefit.
b) No registration required also means lower conversion rate *), ie less people will actually take advantage of the promotion
c) The construction is made so it is more attractive to choose BA or JL **), ie giving incentive to AY's most loyal flyers to try the "competition".
So it is targeting a group of flyers who would go to Japan on AY anyway, and if anything "pushing" them to try BA/JL. I appreciate that revenue-wise AY earns the same regardless of airline flown, but loyalty-wise I don't get it. They are willing to pay extra points for nothing in return?!

[Wild speculation]
They have removed discounts for all Japan-destinations from the corporate-programme, and possibly also from TAs and key accounts. That might lead to some seriously declining sales as a lot of travellers suddenly was deprived these incentives to stay AY, and therefor AY is in need of a promotion just to keep the sales volume?

*) Promotions with registration works better because they lower thresholds for consumers to buy. The initial registration is easy to do, and after that step you feel you have gotten something valuable and are more likely to follow through and actually book a flight.

**)100% more points on JL&BA flights as opposed to 75% extra on AY, because there is no tier bonus at all on BA&JL normally.

Too bad, AY+ nobodies get nothing extra. So my NRT-HEL on JL will go to BAEC for 225% ^

(BUD-LHR-NRT-HEL-PRG with JL code BA/JL/AY metal in C for £1663 with stopovers when/where needed)

Nice deal.

I'm leaning more towards HEL-NRT on CX, which is available at just 200 above that. No need for stopovers or positioning and ... you know...CX is always CX..
I mean, when AY has lost interest in flying on Japan, you might as well go with the best.

Just compare the TPs/Avios on my itinerary :-)

(BUD positioning is not an issue, I have business there anyway. One can look at it as a bit twisted return to HEL via LHR and NRT. I'm unsure yet about the final leg to PRG - fly or throw away)

The CX deal is interesting - what routing?

Yeah, real nice, though I can't figure out what 225% in avios is even worth in "my world". But I'm starting to rethink my attitude towards status anyway. I only fly J, maybe I should stop being loyal just to uphold emerald. I hate to lose my access to First lounges, but when I even can't get upgrades to clear on AY, then what's the point of their points...

Anyway, CX is HEL-AMS/CDG-HKG-NRT. Only wednesdays it seems, and first leg is codeshare op by our dear AY. Rest of it is true CX on 777.
A long route and a lot of time spent in the air, but perhaps it is possible to make stopover in HKG.

CX really has very attractive prices and if you have the new J it is hard to beat, same goes for AA new J.

Coming up in Dec HEL-CDG (overnight)-HKG-NRT / HKG-LHR-HEL for about that price, except paid a little extra in order to get the morning flt HKG-LHR.

50% discount on Classic awards to domestic and European destinations. Decent value for some destinations like Dubai (22 000 points + 115 €).

It's reciprocial, you get double topbonus miles for flying AY.

What's the idea behind it? AY going to the Etihad camp? (just nusing aloud, not based on fact of any kind)

Continuing with silly thoughts: AY is looking for a new partner to replace flybe.

I think AY will be hard set to find a new partner to take over money losing routes... Perhaps they should improve service to get more profitable 😎

While I generally agree on going for service rather than low cost, I don't think domestic and the likes will ever (again) attract on quality. These routes can now only be filled with people wanting to spend 50€.

Double points promo for
  • tax free purchases (onboard or preorder)
  • Sky bistro food

Valid only during dec and january. Not a very attractive promo, but I just stumbled upon it and thought maybe someone in Y is eating from the sky bistro, and if so don't forget to show your card for a few extra points.

I didn't even know you can get AY+ for Sky Bistro... Have preordered some choice beverages for next week's JFK-HEL!
